The year 2020 started off with a higher regional inflation rate of 2.6 percent. This is the highest inflation recorded since March 2019, in which the inflation was posted at 2.2 percent. Inflation in December 2019 was also recorded at 2.2 percent, and in January 2019, 4.4 percent (Table A). The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) created under Republic Act No. 10625 is the primary government agency that will serve as the central statistical authority in the Philippines and to carry out, enforce, and administer civil registration functions in the country as provided in Act No. 3753, otherwise known as the Civil Registry Law for the Government of the Philippines (GOP). With these mandates the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Region 7, tapped the PSA Regional Statistical Services Office 7 to be part of its Regional Inter-Agency Committee on the Middle East Crisis and conducted its first meeting last 29 January 2020. The Inter-Agency Committee reactivated the National Task Force Gitnang Silangan which aims to provide vast assistance to displaced and distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) abroad particularly those working in the Middle Eastern countries. 2018 Poverty Incidence among Families in Central Visayas decrease at 11.5 percent
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) for the first time conducted a regional dissemination forum on the 2018 Full Poverty Statistics across the country. The PSA Central Visayas held its forum on 28 January 2020 at Mezzo Hotel, Cebu City where government agencies, the academic community, the private sector, media and other stakeholders were invited. Assistant National Statistician Wilma Guillen of PSA Central Office presented the Methodology in generating the poverty statistics for the participants to understand and appreciate more the result. The data inputs for poverty estimation are: (1) Provincial food bundles developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI); (2) Price data for agricultural and non-agricultural commodities collected by PSA; and (3) Income data of Filipino families of 5 members and per capita from the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), also collected by PSA. PSA-7 Celebrates 30th Civil Registration Month
The Philippine Statistics Authority Region VII celebrates the Civil Registration Month (CRM) this February 2020. This is the 30th year of the CRM with the theme “Shaping Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) By Enhancing New Trends in the 4th Industrial Revolution.” A Presidential Proclamation No 1106 was signed reaffirming the country’s commitment to achieve universal civil registration and improved vital statistics. This is in support to the Asia-Pacific Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Decade, 2015-2024 that every birth must be registered by 2024 through a well-functioning CRVS system. A CRM Standee will be displayed at the CRS Serbilis Outlet so that all clients can have the opportunity to take pictures signifying the “getting everybody in the picture” to capture all unregistered birth. Region VII reported a total of 12,781 death occurrences in the first quarter of 2019. This contributed to about 8 percent of the 152,688 total registered deaths in the country. Moreover, Central Visayas ranked fifth in terms of number of death occurrence registered. In October 2019, the total population 15 years old and over was estimated at 5.5 million wherein the number of persons who were in the labor force was reported at 3.5 million. This placed the labor force participation rate (LFPR) at 63.2 percent, which means that six in ten of the population aged 15 years and over were either employed or unemployed. (Figure 1). PSA RSSO VII conducts 2nd Level Training on the 2019 FLEMMS Machine Processing
The 2019 Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS) presents a comprehensive statistics on the latest status of literacy, education, and mass media exposure of Filipinos nationwide. Though conducted every five years, it is the only survey in the country that focuses more on education, literacy and mass media exposure. It brings together a wide range of information that serves as a guide for government policy makers, program planners, and decision makers in providing a much broader scope of action and more focused program intervention on the target beneficiaries of development plans. PSA 7 conducts the 2nd Level Training on the Preparation and Printing of Barangay/EA/Block Maps for the 2020 CPH
The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office 7 conducted the 2nd Level Training on the Preparation and Printing of Barangay/EA/Block Maps for the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). The said maps will be used by all field personnel involved in the enumeration of the census. These maps will also be used to reflect updates on basic ground features like roads and streets, and to record existence of new building structures on the ground and the corresponding building serial numbers. This particular activity is the last phase prior to the census undertaking for the Geotagging of Building Structures which started in the year 2017.
