Similar to the trend at the national level, inflation in Central Visayas rose to 8.1 percent in September 2022, from 7.4 percent in August 2022. In September 2021, inflation rate in the region stood at 2.2 percent. (Table A, B and Figure 1) Inflation rate during the month was the highest since January 2019. With this month’s inflation, the region’s average inflation from January to September 2022 stood at 6.0 percent. Philippine Statistics Authority - Region VII is enjoining all stakeholders to actively participate and support the celebration of the 33rd National Statistics Month (NSM) and the Conduct of the 15th National Convention on Statistics (NCS) this October 2022. Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647, "Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month”, the NSM is annually observed nationwide. The NSM aims to: 1) promote, enhance, and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of the society; and 2) elicit the cooperation and support of the general-public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country. For the year 2020, registered births by usual residence of mother in Central Visayas reached to 128,149 which contributed to 8.4 percent to the total 1,528,684 registered births in the Philippines including births in the foreign country. Similar to the trend at the national level, inflation in Central Visayas continued to move at a higher rate of 6.9 percent in July 2022. In the previous month, inflation rate stood at 5.7 percent and in July of the previous year, it was lower at 1.5 percent. (Table A, B and Figure 1) Inflation rate during the month was the highest since January 2019. With this month’s inflation, the regions’ average inflation from January to July 2022 stood at 5.5 percent. (Table B) The acceleration of inflation in Central Visayas in July 2022 was primarily due to the higher annual growths in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index, at 8.5 percent; and transport index, at 23.6 percent. Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte through Executive Order No. 162 institutionalized the acceptance of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) number as sufficient proof of identity and age in all government and private transactions. Pursuant to RA 11055, an individual’s record in the PhilSys shall be considered as sufficient proof of identity and age in all public and private transactions. The PhilSys shall be the government’s central identification platform for all citizens and resident aliens of the country. Furthermore, the PhilID shall serve as the official government-issued identification document and official proof of identity of cardholders in dealing with all NGAs, instrumentalities, departments, bureaus, offices, LGUs, GOCCs, GFIs, State Universities and Colleges, and other chartered institutions and private sector entities. 28 June 2022 - The Philippine Statistics Authority Region 7 (PSA 7) conducted the Regional Data Dissemination Forum on the 2021 Performance of Agriculture and Fisheries in Central Visayas via blended set-up at Golden Prince Hotel & Suites, Cebu City. The Forum was conducted to present the volume and value of agriculture and fisheries in the Region. The said forum was attended by the different Regional Line Agencies in Central Visayas, members of the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC), academe, media personnel, Officials from PSA Central Office, and the discussant/resource speakers from the Department of Agriculture 7 (DA 7) Mr. Elvin Milleza, Project Evaluation Officer IV and Ms. Marina Viniegas, Agricultural Center Chief II. This is the first time that PSA 7 has done a Data Dissemination Forum on the performance of agriculture and fisheries of the region. The inflation rate in Central Visayas similarly increased further to 5.7 percent in June 2022 from 5.3 percent in the previous month. This brings the regional average inflation from January to June 2022 at 5.2 percent. In June 2021, inflation was at 1.5 percent. (Table A, B and Figure 1) Central Visayas and all other regions posted higher inflation in June 2022. The uptrend of inflation in Central Visayas for the month of June 2022 was mainly attributed to the higher annual increase in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index at 7.0 percent. At national level, there are 16,885 registered infant deaths. Across regions in the country, top three regions with highest number of registered infant deaths were Region IV-(CALABARZON), National Capital Region (NCR), and Region III (Central Luzon) respectively. Meanwhile, Central Visayas ranked fourth with1,376 or 7.3 percent in terms of highest of registered infant deaths. In 2021, Agriculture & Fisheries in Central Visayas grew by 5.0 percent from 1.4 percent in 2020. Among the subsectors in 2021, Livestock posted the highest growth rate of 8.1 percent followed by Crops with 4.9 percent. Fisheries had the lowest growth rate with 0.2 percent. This was attended by the 11 member agencies of TWG-SSS which are the following from Department of Health (DOH), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Commission on Population ( POPCOM),Department of Education (DEPED), department of Labor and Employment (DOLE),Department of Justice (DOJ),Philippine National Police (PNP),Department of Human Settlements Urban Development (DHSUD),Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The total number of constructions from approved building permits of Central Visayas in the fourth quarter of 2021 was recorded at 4,432, which indicates an annual decrease of -19.4 percent. On the other hand, the annual growth rate increased in the previous quarter at 4.0 percent. In the fourth quarter of 2020, the number of construction increased by 12.7 percent annually. The total number of domestic trade in the fourth quarter of 2021 was registered at 1.47 million tons. This represents a year-on-year increase of 10.9 percent. In the previous quarter’s year-on-year, it grew by 87.5 percent. In the same quarter of 2020, the annual increase was recorded at 40.4 percent. Almost all (99.9%) of the commodities were traded through water (coastwise), while the rest were traded through air.
