Central Visayas Regional/ Provincial L&P Focal Persons immerse for 2nd Level Training
The Regional Statistical Services Office (RSSO) Focal Person and Provincial Focal Persons together with the Livestock and Poultry Statistics Division (LPSD) immersed for the 2nd Level Training for Operational Training on Livestock and Poultry (L&P) Surveys on 10-12 March 2020 at One Central Hotel, Cebu City. Among the participants were the L&P Provincial Focal/Assistant Focal Persons and selected Regional staff. Two (2) representatives from LPSD also served as trainers, aside from the regional representatives during the task force training. The region’s population remains relatively young as shown by the broad-based population pyramid in 2015. Median age was recorded at 24 years old. In 2015, the region’s total population was projected at 7.4 million, of which more than half (50.5) were men. Same trend was seen in all provinces. QSPBI/SICT Respondent’s Forum in Central Visayas
The Quarterly Survey on Philippine Business and Industry (QSPBI) is one of the designated statistical activities of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). It provides quarterly data on employment, compensation, revenue/sales and inventory for national accounts estimation. Relatedly, it aims to capture, collect and generate data for all the sectors of the economy except in agriculture sector. The survey is one of the main sources of data in the compilation of the Quarterly National Accounts (QNA) and in the construction of the Quarterly Economic Indicators (QEI) of the PSA. In 2019, fisheries production improved by 2.80 percent. Total volume of production was estimated at 155.88 thousand metric tons, higher than the 151.63 thousand metric tons reported a year ago. Of the three subsectors, outputs from Municipal Fisheries and Aquaculture went up by 6.45 percent and 4.34 percent, respectively. From the result of the January 2020 Labor Force Survey (LFS), Central Visayas has 5,380,000 total population of 15 years old and over wherein 63.9 percent were engaged in the Labor Force also known as the Labor Force Participation Rate (Table 1). Central Visayas Regional Statistics Committee meets for the 1st Quarter 2020 Regular Meeting
The Central Visayas-Regional Statistics Committee (CV-RSC) convened for the first quarter meeting last 14 February 2020 at National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 7 Conference Room, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City. The meeting was headed by the committee chairperson, Regional Director Efren B. Carreon of NEDA 7. It was attended by 32 RSC members from Regional Line Agencies, Provincial and Highly Urbanized City Planning Development Offices, State Universities and Colleges, and the Private Sector. Statistics on 2019 Selected Prices, 2017-2019 Exports and Imports, and 2018-2019 Employment by Occupational Group were presented to the committee. Also, updates were made by the Technical Working Groups on Continuing Education, Economic Sector Statistics, Social Sector Statistics and Environment and Multi-Domain Sector Statistics. The year 2020 started off with a higher regional inflation rate of 2.6 percent. This is the highest inflation recorded since March 2019, in which the inflation was posted at 2.2 percent. Inflation in December 2019 was also recorded at 2.2 percent, and in January 2019, 4.4 percent (Table A). The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) created under Republic Act No. 10625 is the primary government agency that will serve as the central statistical authority in the Philippines and to carry out, enforce, and administer civil registration functions in the country as provided in Act No. 3753, otherwise known as the Civil Registry Law for the Government of the Philippines (GOP). With these mandates the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Region 7, tapped the PSA Regional Statistical Services Office 7 to be part of its Regional Inter-Agency Committee on the Middle East Crisis and conducted its first meeting last 29 January 2020. The Inter-Agency Committee reactivated the National Task Force Gitnang Silangan which aims to provide vast assistance to displaced and distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) abroad particularly those working in the Middle Eastern countries. 2018 Poverty Incidence among Families in Central Visayas decrease at 11.5 percent
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) for the first time conducted a regional dissemination forum on the 2018 Full Poverty Statistics across the country. The PSA Central Visayas held its forum on 28 January 2020 at Mezzo Hotel, Cebu City where government agencies, the academic community, the private sector, media and other stakeholders were invited. Assistant National Statistician Wilma Guillen of PSA Central Office presented the Methodology in generating the poverty statistics for the participants to understand and appreciate more the result. The data inputs for poverty estimation are: (1) Provincial food bundles developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI); (2) Price data for agricultural and non-agricultural commodities collected by PSA; and (3) Income data of Filipino families of 5 members and per capita from the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), also collected by PSA.
