NEGROS ORIENTAL TOTAL HOUSEHOLD CEREAL STOCKS ZOOMED TO 29.22 THOUSAND METRIC TONS AS OF OCTOBER 1, 2021

Negros Oriental Total Rice and Corn household stocks climbed to 29,215 metric tons as of 6:00 am on October 1, 2021, from the 16,634 metric tons on the same period in September 2021. This years’ cereal stock level is 16.64 per cent lesser than the 35,045 metric tons assessed in the same period in October 2020. The decrease was influenced by the corn grain sector in which decline in harvests area was noted compared to the previous years’ harvest hectarage.

Rice stocks level this month, reached 15,876 metric tons which is 182.84 percent higher against the previous months’ level of 5,613 metric tons. The improvement was due to the increase in harvests area of rice. For the reference period, Rice stocks comprised 54.34 percent of the total cereals stocks while corn grain share is 45.66 percent only.

This years’ rice stock level compared to same period in 2020, is 67.45 percent higher due to more palay harvests in the province. This years’ rice stock level of 15,876 metric tons reported on October 1, 2021, is 6,395 metric tons greater than the October 1, 2020, level of 9,481 metric tons.

On the other hand, Corn grains had a current corn stock at 13,339 metric tons is 21.03 percent higher from the previous months’ level of 11,021 metric tons due to major harvests in the province before the survey period. This year, corn stocks level is 47.82 per cent lower compared to same period in 2020, at 25,564 metric tons. Lesser area harvested this year compared to last year same period initiated the lower stocking level.

These figures were the result of the Palay and Corn Stocks Survey 1 (PCSS1), conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the province. The monthly survey on farming and non-farming household stocks level intends to generate estimates of the current stocks of rice and corn and is conducted in the first four (4) days of the month with the 1st day of the month as the reference period.
