Negros  Oriental Household Cereal Stocks

Lower stocks level for cereals recorded in January-March 2020

    Total combined household rice and corn stock level monitored every first day of the month at 6 o’clock in the morning of January, February and March logged at 68,188 metric tons. Of which, 41.24 thousand metric tons are in rice form and another 26.95 thousand metric ton in corn grain form. Sixty percent of the total cereal stocks is rice while the remaining forty percent is corn grain. Total Household stocks recorded in this quarter is 38.82 percent lower compared to the same quarter in 2019.

     Combined household stocks monitored as of 6:00 am every 1st day of April, May, and June this year reached 67,617 metric tons of rice and corn grain. This is a 90.41 per cent increase compared to combined stock volume of the first days of the same period last 2019.  At 18,220 metric tons Corn grain stock snared 27 per cent share of the total cereal stocks while rice pooled a 73 per cent share equivalent to 49,400 metric tons.

   Rice stocks level propped-up 124.71 per cent in volume compared to same reference period in 2019 while corn grain also gained 34.68 per cent. Increase in harvests area of palay and corn land in the province this year contributed to the big growth in the volume level.

    Corn grain catch the majority share of this quarters’ combined total household stocks at 54 per cent, Rice shared only 46 per cent of the total volume. This change in scenario was due to the huge increase in corn land harvest area in the province which coincides with the 1st cropping peak harvest of the province.

    Palay area harvested of which most of the households derive the stocks topped 3,331 hectares higher by 12.42 percent compared to the same quarter last 2019. While corn area harvested reached more than 29,345 hectares, the largest harvest over the entire year so far. this period records the lowest volume level of cereals found in the households. This period records the lowest volume level of cereals found in the households in 2020.

    Cereals Household Stocks as of 6:00 o’clock in the morning in the first day of October, November and December 2020 summed up to a combine volume of 97.49 thousand metric tons. Rice stocks recorded a minority share of 42.27 per cent while Corn grain stocks retained the majority share of  57.73 percent.

 

                   

 

    Over this quarter, Rice stocks monitored in the households during the reference day, decreased 3.67 per cent on the average while corn grain increased 49.42 per cent compares to the same reference days in 2019.

 

       

 

Higher Household grains stock noted this year.

    Comparing the combined volume of stocks tallied in the twelve (12) reference days of the year, both rice and corn grain stocks rose to a higher level compared to the same reference days in 2019. This year, the total volume of rice tallied reached 155,800 metric tons, 18.28 percent lower than its previous years’ level while corn grain tallied 145,817 metric tons, higher than 25.42 percent over its 2019 level.

    This 2020, terms of sacks of 50-kilo grams, rice stocks found in households during specific dates of the month is 3,116 thousand sacks, while for corn, it translates to more than 2,916 thousand sacks.

     Over the months of 2020, the first trimester consistently recorded a sustained level of stocking volume above 67 thousand metric tons. Only in the last three (3) months of the year did it record a higher stock level of 97,486 metric tons. Rice garnered the 52 percent share of the total household stocks recorded while the remaining 48 percent is of corn grain.
