Negros Oriental Vital Events Second Quarter 2020

     The information presented in this special release are the registered births, marriages and deaths which occurred in the province from April to June 2020. The data presented were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth (Municipal Form No. 102), Marriage Contract (Municipal Form No. 97), Certificate of Death (Municipal Form No. 103) and Certificate of Fetal Death (Municipal Form No. 103A) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars all throughout the province and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

 Negros Oriental ranked second in Central Visayas

    Negros Oriental ranked second in Central Visayas in the total number of live births by usual residence of the mother during the second quarter of 2020. There were 4,730 registered live births in the Negros Oriental which translated to 16.17 percent to the total registered live births of Central Visayas during the reference quarter. This figure is lower than the preliminary report during the first quarter 2020 registration of 4,859 (Figure 1).

 

Lesser Registered Live Births

    The preliminary counts of the number of registered live births by usual residence of mother during the period dropped by 1,023 births or 17.78 percent from 5,753 record in 2019. The lowest registration for the quarter was in the month of April with only 1,400 registered births (Figure 2).

 

 

Highest Occurrence of Births in Dumaguete City

    Of the total number of live births in the province, 10.38 percent (491 births) were born in the capital of Negros Oriental, which is Dumaguete City. These live births were followed by City of Bayawan (392 births), City of Guihulngan (366 births), City of Bais (280 births), and Santa Catalina (278 births) (Figure 3).

 

 

52 births per day

    On the average, there were 52 babies born daily during the second quarter in 2020 or about two babies born every hour. Out of the 25 cities and municipalities in Negros Oriental, only 3 recorded an increase in the registration of live births during the reference quarter. Birth registration in the municipalities of Amlan, Bacong and Zamboanguita showed an increase of three, four and one birth registration, respectively (Figure 4).

 

 

Twenty two deaths per day

    Negros Oriental ranked third in Region VII in the total number of deaths registered by usual residence of deceased during the second quarter in 2020. There were 1,992 registered deaths in the Negros Oriental which translated to 15.78 percent to the total registered deaths of Central Visayas during the reference quarter. This translated to 22 deaths per day (Figure 5).

 

More deaths in the City Capital

    The preliminary counts of the number of registered deaths during the period dropped by 281 deaths or 12.36 percent from 2,273 record in 2019 to 1,992 in 2020. The lowest registration for the quarter was in the month of April with only 639 registered deaths (Figure 6).

 

    Dumaguete City with 247 deaths showed the highest registered deaths during the reference period. This is followed by the City of Bayawan (163 deaths), City of Tanjay (140 deaths), City of Bais (121 deaths), and City of Guihulngan (116 deaths) (Figure 7).

 

Negros Oriental is highest in the total number of marriages

    Negros Oriental is placed first in Central Visayas in the total number of registered marriages in the second quarter in 2020.

    There were 680 registered marriages in the province which translated to almost half (41.90 percent) to the total registered marriages of Central Visayas the second quarter of 2020 (Figure 8).

 

 

Bayawan City recorded the highest number of registered marriages

    Bayawan City recorded the highest number of registered marriages of 68, which is 10.00 percent of the total marriages in Negros Oriental in the second quarter of 2020.  This translated to five marriage rites in a week. Second in rank was Mabinay with 66 marriages or 9.71 percent. It was followed by Dumaguete City, Manjuyod and Santa Catalina with 48 marriages or 7.06 percent, 44 marriages or 6.47 percent, and 41 marriages or 6.03 percent, respectively. The least number of marriages in the second quarter of 2020 was recorded in the municipality of San Jose with only four registered marriages or 0.59 percent which all happened in the month of June.
