Negros Oriental Vital Events Third Quarter 2020

    The information presented in this special release are the registered births, marriages and deaths which occurred in the province from July to September 2020. The data presented were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth (Municipal Form No. 102), Marriage Contract (Municipal Form No. 97), Certificate of Death (Municipal Form No. 103) and Certificate of Fetal Death (Municipal Form No. 103A) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars all throughout the province and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

 Negros Oriental ranked second in Central Visayas

   Negros Oriental ranked second in Central Visayas in the total number of live births by usual residence of the mother during the third quarter of 2020. There were 4,985 registered live births in the Negros Oriental during July to September which translated to 15.42 percent to the total registered live births of Central Visayas during the reference quarter. This figure is higher than the preliminary reports during the first and second quarter 2020 registration of 4,859 and 4,730, respectively (Figure 1). 

 

 

Lesser Registered Live Births

    The preliminary counts of the number of registered live births by usual residence of mother during the period dropped by 850 births or -14.57 percent from 5,835 record in 2019. The lowest registration for the quarter was in the month of July with 1,601 registered births, 2 counts lower than the month of August which has 1,603 registered births (Figure 2).

 

 

Highest Occurrence of Births in Dumaguete City

   Most live births in the province, 10.69 percent (533 births) were registered in Dumaguete City. These were followed by City of Bayawan (395 births), City of Guihulngan (356 births), City of Bais (311 births), and Santa Catalina (293 births) (Figure 3).

 

 

54 births per day

    There were 54 babies born daily or about two babies born per hour during the third quarter of 2020. Out of the 25 cities and municipalities in Negros Oriental, birth registration in Bais City, City of Bayawan, Bindoy, Dumaguete City, City of Guihulngan and Jimalalud recorded a decrease in the registration during the reference quarter. (Figure 4).

 

 

 Twenty two deaths per day

           Negros Oriental ranked third in Central Visayas in the total number of deaths registered by usual residence of deceased during the third quarter in 2020. There were 2,202 registered deaths in the Negros Oriental which translated to 16.36 percent to the total registered deaths of the region during the reference quarter. This translated to 24 deaths per day (Figure 5).

 

 

More deaths in Dumaguete City

    The preliminary counts of the number of registered deaths during the period reached 2,202. The lowest registration for the quarter was in the month of August with only 719 registered deaths (Figure 6).

 

 

    Dumaguete City with 245 deaths showed the highest registered deaths during the reference period. This is followed by the City of Bayawan (187 deaths), City of Tanjay (149 deaths), City of Bais (134 deaths), and Siaton (127 deaths) (Figure 7).

 

 

Negros Oriental ranked second in Region 7 in the total number of marriages

    Negros Oriental is placed second in Region 7 in the total number of registered marriages in the third quarter in 2020.

    There were 1,146 registered marriages in the province which translated to a third (34.20 percent) to the total registered marriages of Central Visayas during the third quarter of 2020.

    The month of August had the lowest registration during the quarter with 279 registered marriages.

 

City of Dumaguete recorded the highest number of registered marriages

    City of Dumaguete recorded the highest number of registered marriages of 89, which is 7.77 percent of the total marriages in Negros Oriental in the third quarter of 2020.  This translated to six marriage rites in a week. This was followed closely by City of Guihulngan and Mabinay with 83 marriages and 80 marriages, respectively. The least number of marriages during the period was recorded in the municipality of San Jose with only 16 registered marriages or 1.40 percent (Figure 8).
