Lower farm gate price for cereals

    Average farm gate price drop in October to December 2019 against the same period in 2018 was noted. Palay fresh grain other variety decreased 21.51 per cent on a year to year basis to set on Php15.11 per kilo this year from Php19.25 last year. Weak demand from Negros Occidental grains miller sourcing their grains needs from the province resulted to this reduction apparently due to the Rice Tariffication Law. Corn grain mature White also exhibited the same trend losing 17.95 per cent of its average price in the same period in 2019 to close at Php11.70 per kilo.

 Major root crop prices weakened

    Abundant productions of Radish, Sweet Potato and Cassava for food in the province during the quarter, bring about farm gate prices of these commodities lower compared with the same period in 2018.

    Average farm gate price of cassava sank to Php6.53 per kilo losing 9.05 per cent of its price in the same period of 2018. Sweet Potato dumped 17.34 per cent to settle at Php13.25 per kilo this year from last years’ Php16.03.

    Meanwhile, Gabi Cebu and Tagalog exhibited surging trends this quarter compared to same period in 2018. Due to strong market demand a 71.54 per cent and 26.73 per cent price growth was noted respectively.

Leguminous vegetables farm gate prices soar

           Except for Peanut with shell dry which dropped its price 12.26 per cent lower than the Php44.45 per kilo price last year due to higher production, Habitchuelas and Stringbean posted higher price levels this year. With 36.02 per cent and 12.66 per cent price increment respectively, these two vegetable commodities earned the climb through higher market demand from outside province. This quarter, Habitchuelas is dearer by Php9.29 per kilo while Stringbean put up Php3.54 pesos over its farmgate price last 2018.

Higher condiments farm gate price

     Farm gate prices for condiments monitored posted higher price level compared to the same period in 2018. Ginger Hawaiian garnered the highest price increase of 59.07 per cent, Onion leaves (Spring onions) followed with an increment of 53.73 per cent, Bell pepper and Finger pepper came next with 34.50 per cent and 31.71 per cent rise respectively. Lower volume of production against moderate to strong demand triggered the positive trend.

 Majority of Fruits vegetables posted higher price 

           Higher average farm gate price was observed due to higher demand against moderate supply of these commodities. Of the eight (8) commodities monitored in the provincial market basket, only three (3) displayed negative trend due to sufficient supply over the period.

Highest price jump was recorded by Tomato   at Php10.88 per kilogram over last years’ average      

price of Php24.19, equivalent to a 44.98 per cent in-crement.    Least price increase over the two

period was displayed by Upo (Gourd) with only 1.45 per cent rise in its average farmgate price this

year of Php17.50 from last years’ Php17.25 per kilo.

 

Majority of Leafy vegetable commodities farm gate price increased

    Four leafy vegetables monitored over the period exhibited positive trend in its average farm gate price. Temperate vegetables like Broccoli, Cabbage and Pechay Baguio recorded a 1.97 per cent, 1.03 per cent and 10.46 per cent price mark-up respectively due to strong market demand from outside province. Kangkong posted the highest 30.48 per cent price increase due to limited production.

     More than 42.86 per cent of the leafy vegetables monitored recorded falling price trend due to more production and inflow from outside province of same commodities. Highest price drop was 17.58 per cent posted by Cauliflower which dropped Php16.47 per kilo from last years’ Php93.71 per kilo farm gate price. Lettuce followed by losing nearly Php3.00 per kilo to settle to this years’ average price of Php61.58 per kilo. Least price drop of Php0.65. per kilo in average farm gate price was garnered by Pechay native.

Higher farm gate for all varieties of Banana noted

    Farm gate price of Bananas (Bungulan, Lakatan, Latundan, Saba and Cavendish) monitored over the period recorded a common growth trend over the same period in 2018. Limited production over the period as a bearing hills have not fully recovered from the diseases and pest that affected it in the previous quarters. Cavendish posted the highest price improvement of 51.35 per cent over the previous years’ Php8.16 per kilo. Lakatan followed with 41.65 per cent increment to set on Php35.20 per kilo, Saba logged 30.08 per cent surge, Latundan at 20.44 per cent ascent while Bulungan notched the least percentile rise of 4.65 per cent.

Escalating price growth trend for Calamansi and Mango, green Carabao variety

            Calamansi and Mango green carabao variety average farm gate price expanded in value by 8.73 per cent and 28.20 per cent respectively due to less inflow from outside province. Pineapple Hawaiian on the other hand lost Php4.27 per kilo of its 2018 average farm gate price of Php25.19 due to inflow from outside province of supplies.

 

  

 

   More Commercial Crops Registered Tumbling Price Trends

      Industrial commercial crops farm gate prices tumbled low compared to the same period in 2018. Lower traders’ price  offered this year and more production caused the falling trend. Sugarcane for raw sugar lost Php1.38 per kilo over last years’ average price. Copra fresh dip 80 centavos while Coconut young and Coconut mature lost Php2.64 and Php1.23 per kilo on its average farm gate price.

 

 

      Meanwhile, Abaca dried fiber and Coffee  robusta dry beans farm gate price climb above last years’ level due to less production during the period. Abaca dried fiber bring in Php12.33 pesos more of its average farm gate price last 2018 equivalent to 24.51 per cent ascent while Coffee robusta also gained 39.31 per cent rise effectively putting above its last years’ price a hefty Php28.71 per kilo increase. Tobacco Native, dried leaves, put up Php88.77 per kilo over last years’ average farm gate price of Php500.00 per kilo.

 

MAJORITY OF LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY PRICES PLUNGE

       Livestocks for slaughter farm gate prices posted declining trend over the period. Cattle, Hog and Chicken native decreased it’s prices due to lesser demand from outside province against more volume of disposals by raisers. Cattle bled a minimal 0.09 centavos from its 2018 price level, Hog drop Php16.71 per kilo affected by ASF scare quarantine resulting to less traders presence. Chicken native drained Php9.81 per kilo from last years’ Php142.94.

     Meanwhie, Carabao and Goat for slaughter prop up its average farm gate prices this year compared to the same period in 2018. Higher demand from outside the province particularly metro Manila and Cebu raise its price to an equivalent of 1.90 per cent and 12.74 per cent respectively.

 

Higher chicken and duck egg prices noted

    Chicken eggs topped 1.26 per cent on its average farm gate price of Php5.56 per piece last year. Less inflow of same commodity from Negros Occidental and Dipolog caused the minimal uptrend. Duck egg also managed to boost 8.24 per cent increase pushing its farm gate price 46 centavos per piece above the 2018 average price of Php5.58.
