Negros Oriental Registered Live Births in 2017

Highlights of Negros Oriental Registered Live Births in 2017

     Birth data presented in this special release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth (Municipal Form No. 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars all throughout the province of Negros Oriental and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority. Information presented includes registered births which occurred from January to December 2017.

 

Registered Live Births showed an increasing trend

    In Negros Oriental, a total of 23,193 live births were registered in 2017, 12,200 of which were male and 10,993 were female.

   The number of registered live births in the province showed an increasing trend from 2013 to 2017. The increase in the last five years was 1.14 percent from 22,931 live births in 2013 to 23,193 registered births in 2017 (Figure 1). The highest registered births were noticeable in the year 2016 with a record of 23.91.

 

 

More males than females

    Of the total registered live births in 2017, more males (52.60 percent) were born than females (47.40 percent) which resulted in a sex ratio of 111 males per 100 females in the province.

    On the average, there were about 64 babies born daily or about 3 babies born per hour in the province.

 

Highest Occurrence of Births in Dumaguete City

    Of the total live births in the province, 38.08 percent (8,831 births) were born in Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental. Municipalities and cities with more than a thousand live births were City of Guihulngan (2,075 births), City of Bayawan (1,799 births),  City of Bais (1,275 births), Siaton (1,152 births) and Santa Catalina (1,144 births) (Figure 3). 

 

 

Eight out of ten birth deliveries were medically attended

    Of the total number of registered births in the province, 83.23 percent or 9,303 birth deliveries were attended by health professionals which may either be a physician, a midwife or a nurse (Figure 4).

    Traditional birth attendants were still present in the province with 15.63 percent of birth deliveries in 2017.

 

More births on the month of December

    The month of December has the most number of registered 9.13 percent with 2,117 live births in the province in 2017. This was closely followed by the months of November and September with 2,094 and 2,091, respectively.

 

Dumaguete City has the most number of live births in December

Dumaguete City registered 40.53 percent with 858 has the most number of live births in the month of December. This is followed by the Cities of Guihulngan,  (176 live births), Bayawan (161 live births), and Bais (126 live births).
