Household Population

Males numbered more than females by 818 counts in terms of household population

The household population of Siquijor Province as of May 1, 2020 is 103,014 based on the results of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH).

More than half of the household population or at 50.40 percent (51,916 persons) are males while remaining 49.60 percent (51,098 persons) are females.

Number of men are higher in all six (6) municipalities of Siquijor Province compared to the number of women.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), 18,876 persons from the total number of household heads in Siquijor are men while 6,9289 persons are female. This brings the total household population in Siquijor to 25,805. (Table 1)

From the total household population, the age group with the highest number are those who belong to 50 to 59 years old as of May 1, 2020. (Table 1)

Number of Household Head by Sex, Enrique Villanueva

Table 2 presents the Number of Households by Age Group and Sex of Household Head in the Municipality of Enrique Villanueva. There are a total of 1,653 households in the municipality of which male-headed household comprised 71.63 percent of the total while female-headed household comprised the remaining 28.37 percent.

 

Majority of household heads in the municipality are in the age groups 50-59 years old at 353 persons with significant number in male compared to female. Moreover, in every age group, male-headed households outnumber female-headed households. (Table 2)

Number of Household Head by Sex, Larena

From the results of the 2020 CPH, there are a total of 3,365 households in Larena of which male-led households at 2,411 persons or 72.54 percent from the total significantly outnumber female-led households at 924 or 27.46 percent from the total. (Table 3)

Like the Enrique Villanueva, the Municipality of Larena male-led households outnumber female-led households in all age groups and majority of household heads in the municipality are in the age groups 50 – 59 years old at 780 persons. (Table 3)

 

Number of Household Head by Sex, Lazi

Table 4 shows the number of households in the Municipality of Lazi based on the 2020 CPH. The Municipality of Lazi has a total of 5,654 households larger in terms of household count to Enrique Villanueva and Larena. (Table 4)

Similar to Enrique Villanueva and Larena, households led by men at 4,229 persons or 74.80 percent from the total in the Municipality of Lazi greatly exceed to households led by women at 1,425 persons or 25.20 percent from the total. Majority of household heads in this municipality are in the age groups 40 – 49 years old at 1,190 individuals and 50 – 59 years old at 1,191 individuals. Households led by men surpass households led by women. (Table 4)

 

Number of Household Head by Sex, Maria

Male-run households at 2,706 persons or 76.33 percent from the total in the Municipality of Maria heavily outnumber female-run households at 839 persons or 23.67 percent from the total. This brings to a total of 3,545 households in the municipality. (Table 5).

 

Male-run households in this municipality prevail in numbers in every age group with 50 – 59 years old age group accounts the majority of households heads. (Table 5)

Number of Household Head by Sex, San Juan

The table provides the number of households in the Municipality of San Juan. From the results of the 2020 CPH, the total number of households is 4,230. Households under male leadership vastly exceed households under female leadership at 3,100 individuals or 73.29 percent from the total and 1,130 individuals or 26.71 percent from the total, respectively. (Table 6)

Majority of the household heads are in 50 – 59 years old age group in this municipality. Every age group also in this municipality are households under male leadership just like Enrique Villanueva, Larena, Lazi and Maria. (Table 6)

 

Number of Household Head by Sex, Siquijor (Capital)

The total number of households recorded in capital of Siquijor is 7,358 whom households managed by men at 5,216 individuals or 70.89 percent from the total greatly surpass households managed by women at 2,142 individuals or 29.11 percent from the total. (Table 7)

Unlike from the five municipalities, most household head fall in the age group of 40 – 49 years old. Also, every age group in this municipality follows common trend of households managed by men in the province. (Table 7)

Table 8 presents voting age population in Siquijor. The total voting-age population in Siquijor is 71,432, with a nearly equal distribution between males or at 35,749 and females or at 35,683.

The capital (Municipality of Siquijor) alone accounts for 28.06% of the province’s total voting-age population with a greater number of males than females. (Table 8)

 

The largest voting-age population is found in Municipality of Siquijor (Capital) with 20,045 individuals, while the smallest is in Enrique Villanueva with 4,824 individuals. (Table 8)

Majority of the voters in the municipalities of Enrique Villanueva, Larena and San Juan are female at 2,429 individuals, 5,298 individuals and 5,699 individuals, respectively. (Table 8)

Meanwhile, the municipalities of Lazi, Maria and Siquijor (Capital) has a slightly higher male population in terms of voting age population. (Table 8)

 

Vital Statistics in Siquijor

More females were born than males 

 

In 2023, the total number of registered live births in Siquijor province by place of occurrence was 997 with 497 male and 500 female births. Female births slightly outnumbered male births by 3. (Table 9)

The Municipality of Siquijor (Capital) recorded the highest number of births in terms of place of occurrence with 917 live births with 454 male and 463 female births accounting to 91.98 percent of all registered births in the province. (Table 9)

 

Moreover, the total number of registered live births based on the usual residence of mother is 1,061. The number of male births is 530 while female births are 531 showing a nearly equal sex distribution. (Table 10)

The Municipality of Siquijor (Capital) still recorded the highest number of births at 303 with 154 male births and 149 female births making up 28.56 percent of the total number registered births in the whole province. (Table 10)

 

 

 

 

Technical Notes

 

 

Population – total number of individuals in a territory at a specified time. It covers both nationals and aliens, native and foreign-born persons, internees, refugees and any other group physically present within the borders of a country at a specified time. In assembling national demographic statistics for publication, the basic aim has been to obtain data for the physically present (or “de facto”) population rather than for the legally established resident (or “de jure”) inhabitants

Household – is a social unit consisting of a person living alone or a group of persons who sleep in the same housing unit and have a common arrangement in the preparation and consumption of food.

Household population – comprises of persons who belong to a household.

Household Head – is an adult member of the household, male or female who is responsible for the organization and care of the household, or who is regarded as such by the members of the household.

Age – refers to the interval of time between the person’s date of birth and his/her last birthday prior to the census reference date. It is expressed in completed years or whole numbers.

Voting Age Population – proportion of persons aged 18 years and over regardless of if can vote or not

Sex – is the biological and physiological reality of being a male or female.
