Around 60 thousand live births are registered in Region VII in the first semester of 2018

Central Visayas recorded a total of 58,438 live births in the first semester of 2018. This contributed to about nine percent of the 669,879 total number of registered live births in the country. The region ranked fourth in the highest number of live births recorded. (Figure 1)

More than 50 percent of the registered live births in Region VII are males

There were 110 males per 100 females born in Region VII as registered in the first half of 2018. Registered live births for males were recorded at 15,215 or 52% while the remaining 13,785 or 48% were females. (Figures 2 & 3).

Cebu Province registers the largest percentage of live births in Q1 2018

The Province of Cebu registered the highest number of live births in the first semester of 2018, with around 24 thousand or 41 percent of the total live births in the region. Second on the list was Bohol with about ten thousand or 16 percent, followed by Negros Oriental with more than nine thousand or 15 percent registered live births. Highly urbanized cities such as Cebu City had more than eight thousand or 14 percent, Lapu-Lapu City had four thousand or seven percent and Mandaue City had three thousand or five percent contribution. Meanwhile, Siquijor had the smallest percentage share of live births with only 584 or one percent. (Figure 4)

Region VII lists 22 thousand death occurrences in the 1st Semester of 2018

Central Visayas calculated a total of 22,437 death occurrences in the first semester of 2018. This gave a percentage share of about eight percent of the 273,358 total number of registered deaths in the country on the same period.  The Region ranked fourth with the most number of deaths in the country. (Figure 5)

Fifty-five percent or 12,417 of the death occurrences were males while the remaining 45 percent or 10,020 were females. (Figure 6)

Death statistics in Cebu Province is highest in Region VII

About nine thousand or 39 percent of the total death statistics in the region were counted in the province of Cebu during the first semester of 2018. This was followed by Bohol with around 4,500 or 20 percent and Negros Oriental with more than four thousand or 18 percent of the region’s total death statistics. Highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue recorded three thousand or 14 percent, nine hundred or four percent and eight hundred or 3.7 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the province of Siquijor had the lowest death occurrence of only four hundred or two percent of the region’s total. (Figure 7)

Nineteen thousand marriages in Region VII are logged in the first semester of 2018

Central Visayas accounted a total of 19,210 marriage occurrences in the first half of 2018. This contributed to about eight percent of the 232,183 total marriages in the Philippines on the same period. The Region VII ranked fourth of the highest number of marriage occurrences in the country. (Figure 8)

Cebu Province holds the most number of marriages in the first semester of 2018

The Province of Cebu registered 7,500 or 39 percent marriages in the first semester of 2018. This was followed by Negros Oriental with more than four thousand or 22 percent and Bohol with almost four thousand or 21 percent. Highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue noted a total of two thousand or ten percent, nine hundred or five percent and five hundred or three percent marriage statistics, respectively. Meanwhile, Siquijor had the least marriages with only two hundred or one percent of the regional total.

Vital statistics » are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.

Live Birth » is the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, which, after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life.

Marriage » is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Death » refers to the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live birth has taken place.

Highly Urbanized City » a city with (1) a minimum population of 200,000 inhabitants, as certified by the Philippine Statistics Authority; and the latest annual income of at least 50 million pesos based on the 1991 constant prices, as certified by the city treasurer.
