Marriages by Place of Occurrence

At national level, a total of 449,169 registered marriages were reported for the year 2018. Central Visayas contributed to about 8.2 percent of registered marriages in the country. The region ranked fourth in terms of the highest number of marriages recorded. (See Figure 1)

Marriage Registration in Central Visayas

In Central Visayas, a total of 36, 690 number of marriages were registered in 2018. Cebu Province contributed the highest number of marriages with 14,872 of 40.5 percent. Second in rank was Negros Oriental with 7,485 or 20.4 percent, followed by Bohol with 6,725 or 18.3 percent marriages occurred in the region. Meanwhile, Siquijor had the least number of marriages occurrence with 371 or only 1 percent. On other hand, for highly urbanized cities, Cebu City had the greatest number of marriages with 4,286 or 11.7 percent, Lapu-Lapu, City with 1,913 or 5.2 percent, and Mandaue, City with 1,038 or 2.8 percent. Moreover, the combined share of these cities was 19.7 percent of the total registered marriages in the region. (See Figure 2)

Most number of couples married in May

In Central Visayas the highest number of marriages recorded was in the month of May for the year 2018 with 5,092 which accounted to a highest daily average at 164 marriages. Meanwhile, March had the least number of marriages with 1,781 and recorded a daily average of 57 marriages. (See Figure 3)

Most grooms and brides in Central Visayas married between ages 25-29 years old

A large proportion of grooms and brides in Central Visayas were married between ages 25-29 years old in which 37.8 percent or 13, 862 were grooms and brides with 14,011 or 38.2 percent of the total number of recorded marriages in this age group. (See Figure 4)

Among the 132 municipalities/cities in Central Visayas, the following are the Top 10 municipalities which recorded the least number of marriages. Of these 10 municipalities, six (6) are in Bohol, two (2) in Cebu and two (2) in Siquijor.

Marriage » is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Place of Occurrence » refers to the place where the vital event took place.
