NEGROS ORIENTAL ROOTCROPS FARM GATE PRICE TREND IN

 Q1 2021

Negros Oriental farm gate price of root crops for the 1st quarter of 2021 dropped lower compared to the 4th quarter of 2020. Of the five root crop commodities monitored in the provincial market basket of farm prices, 80 percent recorded downtrend in prices.

Cassava tubers for food recorded a 14.15 percent decrease in average farm gate price compared to the average farm gate price recorded in the October to December 2020 period. Lesser demand of the commodity in the locality triggered the decline. Gabi Cebu and Gabi Tagalog both have higher production level in the quarter recorded a decreasing price trend. A percentage decline of 20.23 percent and 8.47 percent respectively was recorded over the period as compared to the preceding quarter.

This years’ first quarter average farm gate price of Radish also posted a 17.82 percent drop compared to its average price in October to December 2020. Lesser commodity demand from outside the province during the quarter compared to the previous quarters’ demand caused the decline of price.

Sweet potato tuber (Camote) average farm gate price for the first quarter this year appreciated Php2.18 per kilo gram over the past quarters’ Php11.43 average farm gate price. This 19.07 percent increment of price for this commodity resulted from its high market demand for the period. This commodity is a regular export to other nearby provinces within the region and in other regions.

These figures were the result of the Farm Prices Survey (FPS) is a monthly national survey that gathers data on farm gate or producers’ prices received for their produce at the first point of sale less transport or delivery expenses. Respondents of this survey are farmers, raisers and traders of selected commodities monitored in the province.
