PSA Siquijor conducts 2022 Provincial Planning Workshop

     The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Siquijor Provincial Statistical Office conducted its provincial planning workshop on 27-28 of January 2022 at the Coco Groove Beach Resort, Tubod, San Juan, Siquijor. The purpose of the workshop is to assess previous year’s performance, review its accomplishment and plan for the 2022 and 2023 activities. The planning workshop was attended by key officials and staff and conducted through blended mode of face to face and online, with online participants coming from the Regional Office including Regional Director Ariel E. Florendo.

     The theme for the year is “Improving Implementation Strategies Through Digital Transformation” and it was spearheaded by Chief Statistical Specialist, Aurelia M. Canda.

    CSS Canda delivered her message and encourages everyone on the importance of planning workshop and the realization of PSA’s plans and objectives. CSS Canda also presented the objectives of the workshop which is to be able to review and appreciate the PSA Accomplishments for 2021 and discuss and agree on the 2022 Plan including the new programs and 2023 priorities. She also reiterated that at the end of the workshop, all accomplishments of every division be presented, 2022 activities with target timelines be agreed and 2023 priorities be highlighted.

     On the first day, each division met to discuss their Workload Analysis and Work Assignment. The unit/division are the statistical, civil registration and accounting & administrative matters. Every division is given ample time to discuss their tasks until the day ends.

     On the 2nd day, the staff were welcomed with the invigorating ambiance of the resort and the enticing smiles of the staff thus making it more conducive for learning and work. Each division presented their Workload Analysis and Work Assignment. CSS Canda and the other staff commented on some issues as the discussion continues. Major points were being discussed especially on the time allotted for every task. Additional tasks were also mentioned and added such as the identification of focal person for every Committee as required by the Regional Office. During the presentation, guidelines on the 2022 PSA Field Awards were also discussed and activities were assessed and redirected to be able to follow the guidelines. The presentation of the Workload Analysis ended with great results and issues were resolved.

     With the blended mode of the workshop, invited personnel from the Regional Office attended virtually. Ms. Edwina M. Carriaga, the Chief Administrative Officer of PSA RSSO VII, was the resource speaker on the 2022 Quality Management System (QMS) Roadmap. She mentioned that QMS is “the way we do things” and should be given importance. She also enumerated the 2022 QMS Implementation Roadmap, such as the 1. Planning Organizing & Capability Building, 2. Implementation & Compliance Assessment, 3. Review and Evaluation, and 4. Audit. An institution who follow these steps could never go wrong, she reiterated. On the other hand, Merit and Selection Plan was discussed by Ms. Melita C. Jumuad, the Administrative Officer IV from PSA RSSO VII.  Ms. Jumuad discussed the steps of the hiring process and the importance of every factor in the selection process. She mentioned the different categories included in the assessment of every application including educational attainment, eligibility, attendance to different seminars and performance reviews among others. She also gave emphasis on the posting of vacant position as required for all positions.

     The workshop ends with a very warmth and inspiring message from the Regional Director, Sir Ariel E. Florendo on the “Understanding and Strengthening of the PSA Core Values” and on the “Spiritual, Ethical and Moral Values”. He reminded everyone of the three core values, Integrity, Transparency and Adaptability that PSA key officials and staff should adhere, to achieve its goals and objectives. At the end of his talk, he congratulated every one of the jobs well done for the previous years and challenged everyone to be innovative for the year ahead.

     The workshop ended with a joyful and expectant heart. A workshop won’t be complete without a photo opportunity and so everyone enjoined themselves and showed their beautiful smiles.
