History was made in the Municipality of Siquijor, as the first-ever “Binyagan ng Bayan” was held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church on 27 February 2025, bringing together families to celebrate the sacrament of baptism.
The event was organized by the Local Civil Registry Office of Siquijor as part of the 35th Civil Registration Month Celebration. It aimed to provide an opportunity for underprivileged families to have their children baptized without the financial burden that often comes with individual ceremonies.
A total of twelve (12) infants, young children and adults received the holy sacrament as a sacred entry into the Christian faith. The ceremony was filled with heartfelt prayers, joyful hymns, and the presence of godparents who pledged to guide their godchildren in their spiritual journey. Parents expressed their gratitude for the initiative, with many saying that they had long wished for their children to be baptized but were unable to afford the associated costs.

Given the success of this first-ever “Binyagan ng Bayan”, Local Civil Registry office of Siquijor headed by Municipal Civil Registrar Fernando Jose A. Pescante, Jr., expressed their hopes of making it an annual tradition. The event was held in participation of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Siquijor to witness the ceremonies and promote accessible civil registration services. The event concluded with a simple gathering where families celebrated with light refreshments, symbolizing a new chapter in their children’s spiritual journey.
