Fisheries is one of the important and economically valuable because it provides food, jobs, and income, and at the same time generate by-products. It has four (4) subsectors namely: Commercial Fisheries, Municipal Fisheries, Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture.

 

Philippine Statistics Authority as the statistical arm of the government is tasked to regularly collect data on these four (4) subsectors. This is primarily aimed at generating the volume and production by kind of fish species at the national, regional and provincial level. Meanwhile, the statistics generated through the conduct of the regular fisheries surveys are useful and serve as inputs in the compilation of national accounts, estimation in the value of production, policy making and program implementation and so do with research and studies.

The three-day Operational Training on 25-28 February 2025 in Cebu City was attended by Provincial and Alternate Focal Persons of the different provinces across the region while provincial training schedules were already set. Personnel from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 7 served as Resource Persons for some topics relative to the training like fish species identification with its common names and fishery laws.

PSA, Siquijor Provincial Statistical Office was represented by SS II Postrado and SA Ontolan and will serve as provincial trainers in the province.
