Cebu province ranked third as the province with highest volume of palay produced

Among the provinces in Central Visayas, Bohol produced the highest volume of palay for the 1st Semester of 2021 with 110 thousand metric tons or 77.38% of palay of the region’s total share. This was followed by the province of Negros Oriental with 24 thousand metric tons or 17.11% of the same period. Cebu ranked 3rd as the province with highest volume of palay produced with 6.23 thousand metric tons or 4.39%. Followed by the province of Siquijor with 1.6 thousand metric tons or 1.11% from January to June 2021. (See Figure 1)


Cebu province palay production increased by 20.10% in 2021

Palay production in Cebu province increased from 5.19 thousand metric tons in the 1st Semester of 2020 to 6.23 thousand metric tons of the same period in 2021. The production rate rose by 20.10% in the 1st semester of 2021. (See Figure 2)
 

 

More palay harvested in irrigated farms than rainfed

In Cebu province, ninety- three percent of the palay are produced from irrigated farms with 5.8 thousand metric tons of the palay produced. On the other hand, seven percent of palay are produced from rainfed farms with 0.42 thousand metric tons.

Cebu province had the highest corn production in the 1st Semester of 2021

In Central Visayas, the highest production of corn was produced in the province of Cebu with 10.42 thousand metric tons or 46.54%. This was followed by the province of Negros Oriental, Bohol and Siquijor with 9.43 thousand metric tons or 42.11%, 1.66 thousand metric tons or 7.40% and 0.88 thousand metric tons or 3.94% respectively. (See Figure 4)

 

More corn produced in the 2nd Semester of 2020

In Cebu province the highest volume of corn production for the first three semesters from January 2020 to June 2021 was harvested in the 2nd Semester of 2020, with 54.25 thousand metric tons or 51%. This is five times higher than the 1st semester of 2020 and 2021, considering that the peak harvest season for corn falls during the month of July to September. (See Figure 5)

 

 

Ninety-six percent of corn are white

Of the 10.42 thousand metric tons of corn produced in Cebu province from January to June 2021, 96% or 9.96 thousand metric tons are white. Meanwhile, 4% or 0.46 thousand metric tons are yellow. (See Figure 6)
