Negros Oriental Vital Events Third Quarter 2021
Negros Oriental ranked second in the most number of registered births
Negros Oriental ranked second in Central Visayas in the total number of live births registered by usual residence of the mother during the third quarter of 2021. There were 4,863 registered live births in the province during July to September which translated to 16.1 percent to the total registered live births of Central Visayas during the reference quarter. This figure was lower compared with the preliminary reports during the preceding quarter of 2021 (Figure 1).

Lesser Registered Live Births
The preliminary counts of the number of registered live births by usual residence of mother during the reference period dropped by -9.6 percent from 5,382 birth records in 2020 to 4,863 birth registrations in 2021. The lowest registration for the quarter was in the month of July with 1,533 registered live births.
Most live births in the province with 9.0 percent (437 births) were registered in Dumaguete City. This was followed by City of Bayawan with 8.6 percent (418 births). Third in rank was Siaton with 7.0 percent (341 births). City of Guihulngan with 7.0 percent (340 births) and Santa Catalina with 6.4 percent (311 births) were placed in the fourth and fifth rank, respectively. Registered births from these five areas comprised 38.0 percent to the total registered births in the province for the reference period (Figure 2).
The least number of registered live births during the period was recorded in the municipality of San Jose with only 74 registered births or 1.5 percent.

There are 53 births per day
During the third quarter of 2021, there were 53 babies born daily in the Negros Oriental. This translated to two births per hour during the reference period. Only seven cities and municipalities in the province recorded an increase in the birth registrations during the quarter compared with the same period in 2020.
Negros Oriental ranked third in the most number of registered deaths
Negros Oriental ranked third in Central Visayas in the total number of deaths registered by usual residence of deceased during the third quarter of 2021. There were 3,428 registered deaths in the province during July to September which translated to 14.6 percent to the total registered deaths of Central Visayas during the reference quarter. This figure was higher compared with the preliminary reports during the preceding first two quarters of 2021. The reported deaths translated to 37 deaths per day (Figure 3).

More deaths in Dumaguete City
The preliminary counts of the number of registered deaths during the period reached 3,428. It was higher by 55.0 percent from the 2,212 death registrations in the same period of last year. The highest registration for the quarter was in the month of September with 1,435 registered deaths.
Most registered deaths in the province with 10.5 percent (359 deaths) were registered in Dumaguete City. This was followed by City of Bayawan with 7.7 percent (263 deaths). Third in rank was City of Guihulngan with 7.4 percent (253 deaths). City of Tanjay with 6.0 percent (206 deaths) and Santa Catalina with 5.8 percent (200 deaths) were placed in the fourth and fifth rank, respectively. Registered deaths from these five areas comprised 37.4 percent to the total registered deaths in Negros Oriental during the reference period (Figure 4).
The least number of registered deaths during the period was recorded in the municipality of San Jose with only 54 registered deaths or 1.6 percent.

Negros Oriental ranked second in the total number of marriages
Negros Oriental ranked second in Central Visayas in the total number of registered marriages during the third quarter of 2021. There were 1,467 registered marriages in the province during July to September which translated to 21.2 percent to the total registered marriages of Central Visayas during the reference quarter. This figure was lower compared with the preliminary reports during the preceding first two quarters of 2021. The reported marriages translated to 16 marriage ceremonies per day (Figure 5).
Most registered marriages happened in the City of Dumaguete
Most registered marriages in the province with 10.8 percent (159 marriages) were registered in Dumaguete City. This was followed by City of Bayawan with 10.0 percent (146 marriages). Third in rank was City of Guihulngan with 7.2 percent (106 marriages). Canlaon City with 6.2 percent (91 marriages) and City of Tanjay with 5.5 percent (80 marriages) were placed in the fourth and fifth rank, respectively. Registered marriages from these five areas comprised 39.7 percent to the total registered marriages in Negros Oriental during the reference period.
The least number of registered marriages during the period was recorded in the municipality of Basay with only 15 registered marriages or 1.0 percent.
