The Philippine Statistics Authority Region VII celebrates the Civil Registration Month (CRM) this February 2021. This is the 31st year of the CRM with the theme “Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics’ Digital Information: The Ways to Manage the New Normal.” “Given the new normal, our efforts in improving our civil registration services are geared towards making our processes more convenient and safer for our clients. We continuously explore new and innovative ways to bring our civil registration services and vital statistics more accessible to the public,” Undersecretary Dennis S. Mapa, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General said.
This year’s 31st Civil Registration Month (#CivilRegMonth) entails a line-up of various activities (1) to raise awareness and promote the legal, administrative, and statistical values of civil registration, and (2) campaign the importance of adequate funding for the enforcement and administration of civil registry laws. In addition, the usual hanging of CRM streamers, lectures on civil registration, information drive, participation to mobile registration initiated by the Local Civil Registry Offices across the region, CRM quiz bee, TV & radio guesting among others are to be conducted most of which are thru virtual and observing minimum health and safety protocols.
The CRM is celebrated by virtue of the Presidential Proclamation No. 682 signed on January 28, 1991 by the late President Corazon Aquino declaring February of every year as the Civil Registration Month. This is to remind the citizenry of their duty to register acts and events concerning status of persons and enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal, administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents.
