February 2019 is celebrated as the “Civil Registration Month” embracing the theme “Inclusive and Responsive CRVS:  Working Smarter through Innovation”.  This was in consonance with the global advocacy of getting everyone registered and of promoting awareness on the importance of civil registration in the lives of every Filipino.

The said celebration was pursuant to Proclamation No.682 by then President Corazon C. Aquino on January 19, 1991. The Philippine Statistics Authority together with the Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) in all cities and municipalities in the country celebrated month of February of every year as Civil Registration Month.  It was conducted to promote and advance public awareness and consciousness on the importance of Civil Registration.  Meanwhile, the Office of the Civil Registrar General (OCRG) has issued a memorandum circular to this effect.

The month-long celebration in the province of Siquijor was highlighted with various activities.  It was kicked off with a Thanksgiving Mass followed by a Provincial Caravan on 01 February 2019, making a stop-over in every municipality to witness the hanging of streamers to designated display centers.  For the whole month of February, streamers bannering this year’s theme can be seen and displayed at the Provincial Office and in the LCROs in the province.

Among the activities was a conference/meeting of the Municipal Civil Registrars from all six (6) municipalities.  It was set to discuss updates, issues and concerns pertaining to Civil Registration operation and services in every municipality.
