1. Philippines
The country’s inflation rate has decreased from 6.4 percent in July 2022 to 6.3 percent in August 2022. In August of the previous year, inflation was lower at 4.4 percent. (Table 1)
2. Central Visayas Region
The inflation rate in Central Visayas has increased to 7.4 percent in August 2022 from 6.9 percent in July 2022. In August 2021, inflation in the region was at 1.9 percent. (Table 1)
3. Negros Oriental
The province’s inflation rate has increased from 6.2 percent on July 2022 to 6.7 percent in August 2022. In August of the previous year, inflation was lower at 4.0 percent. (Figure 1)
The followig commodity groups contributed to the upward trend of the inflation during the month of August 2022 compared to the previous month:
a. Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, 10.2 percent from 8.6 percent;
b. Furnishing, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance, 4.2 percent from 4.0 percent;
c. Health, 3.2 percent from 1.9 percent;
d. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 3.0 percent from 1.1 percent;
e. Recreation, Sport and Culture, 1.7 percent from 1.4 percent;
f. Restaurants and Accommodation Services, 2.1 percent from -0.4 percent;
g. Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 0.9 percent from 0.4 percent;
h. Information and Communication, 0.5 percent from 0.0 percent; and
i. Clothing and Footwear, 0.5 percent from 0.3 percent.
On the contrary, inflation rate was lower for Transport at 11.7 percent from 15.2 percent and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 4.6 percent from 4.8 percent. (Figure 3)
Two commodity groups retained their previous month’s inflation rates and these were: Education, and Financial Services at 0.0 percent. (Figure 4)
