The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Siquijor Provincial Statistical Office successfully convened the 2023 Provincial Product Accounts Dissemination Forum on 28 November 2024, at the Coco Grove Beach Resort,Tubod, San Juan, Siquijor. The event brought together stakeholders, policymakers, and local leaders to discuss Siquijor’s impressive economic performance.
The event began with the registration of participants at 8:30 AM, followed by the invocation led by Administrative Aide VI (COSW), Crisby L. Gapol. The singing of the national anthem and Siquijor hymn was presented through AVP. Accountant I, Ms. Lorlyn O. Angot formally acknowledged the participants, setting the tone for a meaningful discussion.
Inspiring messages from key leaders underscored the importance of data-driven initiatives for sustainable development. National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, Claire Dennis S. Mapa and Regional Director of the Regional Statistical Services Office VII, expressed their support for collaborative efforts to highlight provincial economic data.
Supervising Statistical Specialist (Officer-In-Charge) of PSA-Siquijor, Engr. Joselito C. Maghanoy, presented the economic highlights, revealing Siquijor’s 6.2% GDP growth rate for 2023, an improvement from 5.6% in the previous year. The forum also showcased the leading contributors to the province’s economy, including the services sector, which accounted for 72.4% of the GDP, and the fastest-growing industries such as transportation and storage, accommodation and food service activities, and other services.
Representatives from NEDA Region VII and the Provincial Planning and Development Office shared their insights on Siquijor’s economic achievements. Senior Economic Development Specialist, Mylene Felicisima F. Calderon from NEDA, and Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (Officer-In-Charge), EnP. Jason D. Manos from the Provincial Planning and Development Office, emphasized the importance of provincial data in formulating strategic development plans.
An engaging Open Forum facilitated by Administrative Officer I, Jhon Lloyd A. Dagohoy, allowed participants to clarify and contribute their perspectives. The program concluded with the distribution of certificates and a heartfelt closing message from the Chief Statistical Specialist of the Production Accounts Division, Florande S. Polistico.
The event, hosted by Accounting Clerk (COSW), Mary Stephanie Angel Perez and Registration Officer I, John Claude Dag-uman, was a testament to Siquijor’s commitment to transparency and evidence-based governance. The dissemination forum provided stakeholders with a clearer understanding of the province’s economic trajectory and highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving sustained progress.
