More than sixty thousand deaths registered in Central Visayas

Central Visayas registered a total number of 64,195 deaths for the period January 2020 until March 2021. This comprises to 8.19% deaths from the total number of 784,137 registered deaths in the Philippines of the same period. The region ranked fifth among the regions with highest number of deaths registered, next to Western Visayas at ranked fourth with 65,435 or 8.34% number of deaths. (See Figure 1)

 

More deaths registered during the first quarter of 2021 than in 2020

In Region 7, the number of registered deaths from January to March 2021 reached 13,696 which is higher by 14.03% than the total number of registered deaths of 12,011 of the same period in 2020. It is also noted that all months in the first quarter of 2021 had increased in the registered deaths- January with an increase of 336 (7.78%), February with 567 (15.08%) and March 782 (19.88%). In the last five quarters from January 2020 to March 2021, July had the highest number of registered deaths with 5,046 or 7.86% of the total deaths. On the other hand November registered the lowest number at 3,606 or 5.62% of the total number of registered deaths in CV for the period January 2020 to March 2021. (See Figure 2)

 

Registered deaths in the provinces of Region VII

Being the largest province in terms of population, Cebu registered the highest number of registered deaths with 25,748 or 40.11% of registered deaths in Central Visayas for the period January 2020 to March 2021. This was followed by Bohol with 11,175 or 17.41%, Negros Oriental with 10,534 or 16.41%, Siquijor with the lowest number of registered deaths with only 972 or 1.51%. Of the three highly urbanized cities in the region, Cebu City had the highest number of registered deaths with 9,803 or 15.27%, followed by Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City with 3,224 or 5.02% and 2,739 or 4.27% respectively. (See Figure 3)

Vital statistics » are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime.

Marriage » is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Death » refers to the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live birth has taken place.

Place of Occurrence » refers to the place where the vital event took place.
