CORN PRODUCTION INCREASES BY 3.04 PERCENT
Corn production in Siquijor province increased by 9.20 percent for the period January-June 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Its production in 2023 was posted at 162.42 metric tons, while in 2024 its production was recorded at 177.36 metric tons.
CORN PRODUCTION BY TYPE, January - June 2023 - 2024
Production of white corn was reported at 167.36 metric tons in January-June 2024. This was higher by 3.04 percent compared to its same period record in 2023 with 162.42 metric tons. Yellow corn registered 10.00 metric tons in January-June 2024, while no production was reported in January-June 2023.
QUARTERLY CORN PRODUCTION, 1st and 2nd Quarter 2023-2024
First quarter marked a production record of 160.76 metric tons of white corn in 2024. It was higher than the 2nd quarter’s record of only 6.60 metric tons. In 2023, the first quarter also had a higher production estimate of 129.72 metric tons of corn white compared to 2nd quarter with only 32.70 metric tons. For yellow corn in 2024, the 1st quarter’s production was reported at 10.00 metric tons, while no production was reported in 2nd quarter. In 2023, no yellow corn production was reported both for the first and second quarter.
AREA HARVESTED FOR CORN GOES DOWN BY 1.64 PERCENT
The area harvested for corn was reported at 180.00 hectares in January – June 2024. It was 1.64 percent lower than its same semester record in 2023 of 180.00 hectares.

The area harvested for corn white in January-June 2024 was 180.00 hectares, while in January-June 2023 it was registered at 183.00 hectares. The area harvested for corn yellow in January-June 2024 was recorded at 4.00 hectares, while none in January-June 2023.
QUARTERLY AREA HARVESTED FOR CORN, 1st and 2nd Quarter 2023-2024
In 2024, the 1st quarter registered an area for white corn of 166.00 hectares which was higher than the 2nd quarter of only 10.00 hectares. The area for yellow corn was reported at 4.00 hectares only in the 1st quarter, while no area was reported in the 2nd quarter. In 2023, the 1st quarter’s area for white corn was reported at 138.00 hectares which was higher than the 2nd quarter with area reported at 45.00 hectares only. No report of planting and harvesting on yellow corn was observed in the 1st and 2nd quarter, thus no area was recorded for these quarters in 2023.
TECHNICAL NOTES
The Corn Production Survey (CPS) is one of the major agricultural surveys conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This generates estimates on corn production, area, yield, and other production-related data that serve as inputs for policy making and programs on corn. Specifically, the production data generated from the survey are direct inputs to the Value of Production in the Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries and to the computation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), accordingly. Moreover, the survey supports the data needs of planners, policy and decision makers and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector particularly the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Agriculture (DA) and its attached agencies such as Philippine Council for Agriculture, and Fisheries (PCAF) and the general public.
The survey covers sample corn farming households in sample corn producing barangays in all provinces in the country. The sampling frame for the Primary Sampling Units (PSUs) is the 2012 Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) while the sampling frame for the Secondary Sampling Unit (SSUs) is the 2017 Listing of Farm Households (LFH). However, if the selected sample PSU is not covered in the 2017 LFH, the 2012 CAF is used.
Data collection is scheduled on the first 10 days of the month following the reference period, i.e., April for Quarter 1, July for Quarter 2 and October for Quarter 3. To comply with the Philippine System of National Accounts calendar, data collection for Quarter 4 is done during the first 10 days of December. The collection of data for this survey is undertaken by Statistical Researchers (SRs). SRs are trained prior to field operations to ensure that the procedures and concepts are understood.
