The total goat production of Central Visayas from January to March 2021 was estimated at 2.56 thousand metric tons, liveweight. This was 4.5 percent higher than the previous year’s same quarter production of 2.45 thousand metric tons. (Figure 1 and Table 1)
Among all regions, Central Visayas was the top producer of goat during the quarter followed by Ilocos Region with 2.28 thousand metric tons, liveweight and Western Visayas with 2.00 thousand metric tons, liveweight. (Figure 1 and Table 1)
In terms of production, the region’s percent share was the biggest among all regions at 15.5 percent to the country’s total goat production. Meanwhile, Caraga Region shared the lowest with 0.7 percent. (Figure 3 and Table 1)
As of 01 January 2021, Central Visayas total goat inventory was estimated at 412, 531 heads. This was -23.1 percent lower than 536, 614 heads in the same period of 2020. The region ranked 3rd in terms of the level of inventory for the period. (Figure 4 and Table 2)
TECHNICAL NOTES
This Goat Situation Report presents the goat industry in terms of volume of production and inventory by farm type. The report is prepared to serve as a ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. Itis released quarterly; that is, every February, May, August, and November.
Concepts and Definitions
Volume of production refers to the volume of locally-raised goat disposed for slaughter including those which were shipped out to other regions/provinces for slaughter. This is expressed in metric tons, liveweight.
Inventory refers to the actual number of goat present in the farm as of a specific reference date. For this report, the inventory of goat is as of 01 January 2021 since the surveys for this commodity are conducted semi-annually, i.e., January and July.
