The total goat production of Central Visayas from October to December 2021 was estimated at 2,937 metric tons, liveweight. This was -4.3 percent lower than the previous year’s same quarter production 3,069 metric tons, liveweight. (Figure 1,2 and Table 1)

 

Among all regions, Central Visayas was the top producer of goat during the quarter with a production of 2,937 metric tons followed by Ilocos Region with 2,529 metric tons, liveweight and Central Luzon with 2,464 metric tons, liveweight. (Figure 3 and Table 1)

 

In terms of production, the region’s percent share was the biggest among all regions at 13.8 percent to the country’s total goat production. Meanwhile, Caraga Region shared the lowest with 0.6 percent. (Table 1)

 

As of 01 January 2022, Central Visayas total goat inventory was estimated at 570,136 heads. This was 1.5 percent higher than 561,974 heads in the same period of 2021. This comprised of 563,657 heads or 98.1 percent for Backyard farm and 6,479 heads or 1.1 percent for Commercial farm. The region ranked 1st in terms of the level of inventory for the period. (Figure 4,6 and Table 2)

 

In terms of inventory, Central Visayas posted the highest total goat population of 570,136 heads. This was followed by Western Visayas with 510,600 heads and Ilocos Region with 458,076 heads. These three regions accounted for 39.7 percent of the total goat inventory in the country. (Figure 6 and Table 2)

This Goat Situation Report presents the goat industry in terms of volume of production and inventory by farm type. The report is prepared to serve as a ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. Itis released quarterly; that is, every February, May, August, and November.

Concepts and Definitions

Volume of production refers to the volume of locally-raised goat disposed for slaughter including those which were shipped out to other regions/provinces for slaughter. This is expressed in metric tons, liveweight.

Inventory refers to the actual number of goat present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
