The Municipality of Maria had successfully convened its 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) Municipal Coordinating Board on 13 May 2024, marking a significant step towards the simultaneous conduct of 2024 POPCEN-CBMS of the Philippine Statistics Authority. The meeting, held at the at SB Session Hall, Poblacion Sur, Maria, Siquijor, showed a robust participation from esteemed members of the MCCB.

The CBMS is a crucial initiative mandated by Republic Act No. 11315, aimed at collecting essential data to support evidence-based policymaking and the efficient implementation of government programs at the local level. This initiative is led by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in collaboration with local government units.

During the meeting, Statistical Specialist II Rosario S. Atay provided an overview of the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS rollout, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among all board members. He outlined the objectives, legal bases, rationale, scope and coverage, reference date and enumeration period of the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS, ensuring that all collected data would comply with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and other relevant legislation.

The convening board also discussed the logistics for the upcoming data collection phase, which includes a comprehensive enumeration of all households, geotagging of service facilities, and government projects within the municipality. This undertaking is set to begin in July and will continue until September 2024. Additionally, training sessions for Census Area Supervisors (CAS), Team Supervisors (TS) and Enumerators (EN) are scheduled to ensure efficient and effective data collection and, most importantly, secure handling of data.

Local officials of LGU Maria expressed their strong support and participation for the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS, highlighting its potential to improve local governance through precise data-driven insights. The data to be gathered will aid in updating population, refining social protection program beneficiaries, preparing for future elections, and enhancing the distribution of shares of Local Government Units in the National Tax Allocation (NTA).

The convening of the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS Municipal Coordinating Board in the Municipality of Maria is a significant move towards fostering data-driven development and enhancing the delivery of local government services. By leveraging the CBMS, the municipality aims to foster sustainable development and enhance the well-being of its residents through reliable and comprehensive data.
