Negros Oriental ranked second in the most number of registered births

The province of Negros Oriental ranked second in Region 7 in the total number of registered live births by usual residence of the mother during the fourth quarter of 2021. Preliminary records showed that here were 4,191 registered live births in the province during October to December 2021 which translated to 16.4 percent to the total registered live births of Region 7 during the reference quarter. This figure was -
25.8 percent lower compared with the preliminary reports during the same period of the preceding year (Figure 1).

Lesser Registered Live Births in 2021

The preliminary counts of the number of registered live births by usual residence of mother during October to December 2021 dropped by -25.8 percent from 5,647 birth records in 2020 to 4,191 birth registrations in 2021. The lowest registration for the quarter was in the month of December with 859 registered live births.

Dumaguete City had the largest number of registered live births in the province with 9.9 percent (416 births). This was followed by City of Bayawan with 9.6 percent (402 births). Third in rank was City of Guihulngan with 6.8 percent (284 births). The municipality of Siaton with 6.7 percent (280 births) and Santa Catalina with 6.4 percent (268 births) were in the fourth and fifth rank, respectively. Registered births from these five areas comprised 39.4 percent to the total registered births in the province for the reference period (Figure 2).

The least number of registered live births during the period was recorded in the municipality of San Jose with only 70 registered births or 1.7 percent.

There were 2 births per hour

During the fourth quarter of 2021, there were 46 babies born daily or 2 babies born per hour in the province of Negros Oriental. Valencia is the sole municipality which recorded an increase in the birth registrations during the quarter compared with the same period in 2020.

Negros Oriental ranked second in the number of registered deaths

Negros Oriental ranked second in Region 7 in the total number of deaths registered by usual residence of deceased during the fourth quarter of 2021. There were 3,760 registered deaths in the province of Negros Oriental during October to December which translated to 25.3 percent to the total registered deaths of Region 7 during the reference quarter. This figure was 125.8 percent higher compared with the preliminary reports during the same period in 2020. The reported deaths translated to 41 deaths per day (Figure 3).

More deaths in Dumaguete City

The preliminary counts of the number of registered deaths during the period reached 3,760. It was higher by 125.8 percent from the 1,665 death registrations in the same period of last year. The highest registration for the quarter was in the month of October with 1,845 registered deaths.

Largest registered deaths in the province with 10.9 percent (411 deaths) were found in Dumaguete City. This was followed by City of Bayawan with 7.4 percent (280 deaths). Third in rank was City of Tanjay with 7.0 percent (265 deaths). City of Guihulngan with 6.1 percent (229 deaths) and Siaton with 6.0 percent (227 deaths) were placed in the fourth and fifth rank, respectively.

Registered deaths from these five areas comprised 37.6 percent to the total registered deaths in the province of Negros Oriental during the reference period (Figure 4).
The least number of registered deaths during the period was recorded in the municipality of San Jose with only 58 registered deaths or 1.5 percent.

Negros Oriental ranked second in the total number of marriages

Negros Oriental ranked second in Region 7 in the total number of registered marriages during the fourth quarter of 2021. There were 1,314 registered marriages in the province during October to December which translated to 20.1 percent to the total registered marriages of Region 7 during the reference quarter. This figure was lower compared with the preliminary reports during the preceding first two quarters of 2021. The reported marriages translated to 16 marriage ceremonies per day (Figure 5).

Most registered marriages happened in the City of Dumaguete

Most registered marriages in the province were in Dumaguete City with 11.5 percent (151 marriages). This was followed by Canlaon City with 6.7 percent (88 marriages). Third in rank was Santa Catalina with 6.5 percent (86 marriages). Mabinay with 6.2 percent (81 marriages) and City of Bayawan with 5.9 percent (77 marriages) were placed in the fourth and fifth rank, respectively (Figure 6).

Registered marriages from these five areas comprised 36.8 percent to the total registered marriages in Negros Oriental during the reference period.

The least number of registered marriages during the period was recorded in the municipality of Tayasan with only 16 registered marriages or 1.2 percent.
