Siquijor Provincial Statistical Office- In a move to improve economic planning and data sharing across the province, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Siquijor conducted a series of trainings, coordination, and field visits for Local Government Units (LGUs) on the Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC) and Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC) from May 13-17 and 20, 2024.
The PSIC is a vital classification system that categorizes industries based on their economic activities. Its adoption by LGUs ensures standardized data collection and analysis, leading to more informed economic decision-making at the local level. The PSGC, on the other hand, provides a uniform code for identifying geographic locations within the Philippines.
This initiative aimed to achieve several key objectives:
- Orient LGUs on the significance of PSIC and PSGC: Participants gained a deeper understanding of how these systems contribute to accurate and comparable data collection.
- Address challenges in PSIC adoption: The training sessions provided a platform for LGUs to discuss any difficulties they encounter when implementing the PSIC.
- Promote data sharing: Collaboration between PSA Siquijor and LGUs is crucial for generating high-quality, timely, and consistent industrial data.
- Harmonize LGU Business Registers: The training aimed to ensure alignment between the business registries managed by LGUs (through i-BPLS/e-BPLS) and the PSA's establishment and industrial data classification systems.
By strengthening data collection practices at the local level, PSA Siquijor is paving the way for more effective economic planning and development across the province. This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between national and local government agencies in building a robust statistical system for the Philippines.
