PSA Headquarters, Manila – Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Siquijor Provincial Statistics Office participated in the "Training-Workshop on Data to Non-Benchmark Accounts" held from August 27 to 29, 2024. This event took place at the 24th Floor, Multifunction Halls, PSA Headquarters, PSA Complex, East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, gathering statistical experts and key stakeholders from various PSA regional and provincial offices for this pivotal learning opportunity.
The three-day training workshop was facilitated by technical personnel and staff from the MAS-Subnational Economic Accounts Division, Production Accounts Division, and Expenditure and Integrated Accounts Division. The workshop aimed to enhance the capabilities of PSA personnel in handling and processing data for non-benchmark accounts.
To ensure a conducive learning environment, participants were organized into three clusters:
- Cluster 1 included regions from NCR, Region 2, Region 5, Region 11, and Region 12, with Miss Elgie A. Gulane-Rosenblad, Officer-in-Charge, SEAD, as their lead facilitator.
- Cluster 2 included Region 1, Region 3, MIMAROPA, Region 9, Region 10, and BARMM, with Miss Chelo M. Nuyda, Senior Statistical Specialist, SEAD, as their lead facilitator.
- Cluster 3 included CAR, Region 4A, Region 6, Region 7, Region 8, and Region 13, with Miss Precious Ann C. De Jesus, Statistical Specialist, SEAD, as their lead facilitator.
The workshop began with discussions on the Production Approach to GDP Compilation, highlighting the importance of this method in providing a reliable measure of economic activity. Participants were introduced to the latest methodologies in GDP estimation, including the single extrapolation method, which plays a crucial role in non-benchmark estimation.
Another key session focused on LGU Data Utilization in Non-Benchmark Accounts, emphasizing the value of local government unit data in improving the accuracy and detail of economic accounts. Participants gained invaluable insights into how these methods could be adapted to enhance data quality and economic planning in the province.
The workshop was not limited to lectures; participants actively engaged in group exercises that simulated real-world data compilation and analysis scenarios. These hands-on sessions provided an opportunity for the PSA-Siquijor team to collaborate with counterparts from other regions, exchanging best practices and strategies for efficient data management.
On the final day, each cluster of participants presented their workshop outputs, demonstrating their newly acquired skills in handling non-benchmark data. These presentations reflected the diverse approaches to data challenges across different regions, fostering a rich environment of learning and innovation.
As the workshop concluded, the knowledge gained from the sessions on GDP compilation, data extrapolation, and LGU data integration will be instrumental in enhancing the statistical processes within Siquijor. The PSA-Siquijor Provincial Statistics Office looks forward to implementing these advanced methodologies to improve the accuracy and reliability of their economic data, contributing to the broader goals of national development and informed policy-making.
