Place of Usual Residence of the Deceased

At national level, a total of 879,429 registered deaths were reported for the year 2021. Central Visayas contributed to 67,814 registered deaths or 7.7 percent of registered deaths in the country. The region ranked fifth in terms of highest number of deaths recorded. (See Figure 1).

 

Central Visayas records more than 60 thousand registered deaths for the year 2021

Cebu Province recorded the highest number of registered deaths with 27,727 or 40.9 percent. Second was Negros Oriental with 12,801 or 18.9 percent, followed by Bohol with 12,007 or 17.7 percent deaths occurrence. Meanwhile, Siquijor had the lowest number of registered deaths with 1,215 or 1.8 percent only.  On the other hand, for highly urbanized cities, Cebu City had the most number of registered deaths with 8,401 or 12.4 percent, Lapu-Lapu City was second with 3,240 or 4.8 percent while Mandaue City had 2,423 or 3.6 percent of the total deaths registered. Moreover, combined share of this cities was 20.8 percent of the total deaths in the region. (See Figure 2)

 

More male registered deaths than female in Region VII

In 2021, there were more male registered deaths with 37,034 or 54.6 percent compared to female deaths with 30,780 or 45.4 percent of the total registered deaths in the region.  (See Figure 3.)

 

Registered deaths by sex across the provinces

Across the provinces of Central Visayas, Cebu had the highest registered male deaths with a total of 14,893 or 53.7 percent which is 7.4 percent higher than females with 12,834 or 46.3 registered deaths. Meanwhile, Siquijor had the lowest registered male deaths with a total of 657 or 54.1 percent which is 8.2 higher than females with 558 or 45.9 percent registered deaths. Moreover, for highly urbanized cities, Cebu City had the highest registered male deaths with a total of 4,710 or 56.1 percent which is 12.1 higher than females with 3,691 or 43.9 percent registered deaths while Mandaue City had the lowest registered male deaths with a total of 1,378 or 56.9 percent which is 13.7 higher than females with 1,045 or 43.1 percent registered deaths. (See Figure 4)

 

Most number of deaths in August

In 2021, most deaths occurred in August with 9,265 or 13.7 percent of the total deaths in the region. It was followed by the months of September with 7,763 or 11.5 percent, July with 6,522 or 9.62 percent, and October with 6,498 or 9.58 percent. Meanwhile the month of April had the least number with 4,390 or 6.5 percent share of the registered deaths. (See Figure 5)

 

Technical Notes:

Vital statistics » are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime.

Death » refers to the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live birth has taken place.

Place of Usual Residence» refers to the place where the person habitually or permanently resides.

Explanatory Note:

Data on deaths presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Death (Municipal Form No. 103) registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars throughout the country and submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar General. This release shows an overview of the registered deaths which occurred from January to December 2021. The cumulative figure for 2021 Preliminary Death Statistics includes persons who died in the Philippines whose usual residence is in a foreign country. Figures are results of actual registration without any adjustment for under-registration.
