31st Civil Registration Month as a month-long celebration was highlighted with different and various activities and one of those is the Mangrove Planting in a designated area/ barangay in the Municipality of Siquijor. This was a joint effort between the Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) in this province and PSA, Siquijor Provincial Statistical Office.
Barangay Caticugan is a marine sanctuary and is one of the identified and designated areas for mangrove planting in the Municipality of Siquijor. The group chose to have the activity done to help and contribute in the preservation of the environment. Mangroves provide essential habitat for thousands of species thus stabilizing shorelines, preventing erosion and protecting the land, the people who live from waves and storms. An orientation was conducted prior to the activity, this was done by AT Lanih Lei G. Flores. She introduced the value and importance of mangroves in the ecosystem. And further conducts a demo on how to properly sow a mangrove propagule.
The activity was participated by the Municipal Civil Registrars with its staff and PSA, Siquijor personnel while the area and materials were prepared by the designated personnel and its staff from the Municipal Agricultural Office, Ms. Lanih Lei G. Flores. There was a total of 180 mangrove propagules sown during this day.
This forms part of the continuing thrust of the Office to get involved and active in community service aside from delivering quality Civil Registration services. Thus, this was initiated to instill environmental awareness.
