Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) Siquijor has joined with the rest of the government agencies in observance of the National Women’s Month celebration and to support the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW). The PCW launches a new recurring theme from this year to 2028: WE for gender equality and inclusive society. The theme sparks a renewed commitment to the advocacy and banks on the gains achieved during the 2016-2022 theme, WE Make CHANGE Work for Women, which empathized the need for compassionate and harmonized networks towards gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE). 

Different publication such as press releases, news article and statistics about women regarding population, life expectancy, work and education, violence against women, and, men and women statistics in the province of Siquijor were posted in a bulletin board located at the ground floor (lobby) of the Siquijor Business and Convention Center. A trivia was also conducted every Monday morning after flag ceremony. 

The major activity for the celebration of the National Women’s Month is the lecture on Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 (VAWC) and Lecture/Workshop on Money Management which were held at the Candanay Norte, Barangay Hall, Siquijor, Siquijor on 17 March. The event was spearheaded by PSA Statistical Specialist II (SSII) Jill Bernadette Abing and attended by PSA Staff and women from various groups of Bgy. Candanay Sur and Candanay Norte, Siquijor, Siquijor. The lecture on VAWC was tackled by PMSg Chessa Pearl A. Caulawon from the Philippine National Police. She mentioned that the law protects women and their children. She also highlighted the government’s effort to help those victims of any form of violence.
Meanwhile, the lecture and workshop on Money Management was conducted by ACCT I Lorlyn Angot from PSA Siquijor. She mentioned the importance of right money management as women are considered budget officers of their household. She mentioned different tips on how to budget and the importance of having a savings.
To culminate the celebration of National Women’s Month on 31 March, a lecture on the Key Indicators Report of the 2022 Philippine National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) was discussed by SSII Jill Bernadette Abing. The discussion mentioned the current data on key demographic and health indicators, particularly data on household and respondent characteristics, fertility levels, fertility preference, marriage and sexual activity, knowledge and use of family planning methods, childhood mortality, maternal and child health, domestic violence and other health-related issues.
Lastly, is the awarding of winners for the Poster Making contest. The Philsys and CBMS unit bags the 1st place while the Statistical and Civil Registration and Admin Unit bags the 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
