Population of Siquijor Province in 103,395 as of 01 May 2020

The population of Siquijor hits 103,395 in 2020 from 81,598 population in 2000. The 2020 population grew by 7,411 from the 95,984 population in 2015 and by 12,329 compared with the population of 91,066 in year 2010.  Around 10 thousand persons were added to the province population every decade since 2000.

The growth of the population in Siquijor is relatively higher with a Population Growth Rate or PGR of 1.58 percent for the period 2015 to 2020.  By comparison, the rate at which the province’s population grew during the period 2010 to 2015 was lower at 1.01 percent. During years 2000 to 2010 the PGR was 1.10 percent.

Total Population of Siquijor by Municipality for 2020

For the Siquijor Province, Municipality of Siquijor (Capital) had the largest population in 2020 with 28,915 people or 27.96 percent of the province’s total population.  It is followed by Lazi with a population of 22,488 people or 21.75 percent of the total population and San Juan with 16,363 people or 15.83 percent of the province’s total population then followed by Larena with a population of 14,454 people or 13.98 percent of the total population and Maria with 14,385 people or 13.91 percent of the province’s total population.  Meanwhile, Enrique Villanueva was recorded as the least populated municipality with 6,790 people in 2020 or, around 6.6 percent of the province’s total population.

Municipality of Enrique Villanueva grew fast at 2.27 %.

For the population growth of Siquijor by Municipality, Enrique Villanueva was the fastest growing municipality with an average annual growth rate or PGR of 2.27 percent. In 2010-2015 it recorded a slowest growth rate among the six municipalities at 0.42 percent.

San Juan was the second highest PGR at 2.06 %. During the period 2010-2015 San Juan recorded the highest growth rate in the province with 1.80 percent. Third in rank is Municipality of Lazi with 1.98 percent. During 2010-2015 it only recorded a PGR at0.44 percent.  Siquijor ranked at fourth with PGR at 1.56 percent with an increase of 0.36 percent from 1.20 percent during the period 2010-2015.

Larena which recorded a PGR of 1.31 percent in 2010-2015 decreased in 2015-2020 with PGR at 0.91 percent.  Maria was the slowest growing municipality with PGR of 0.83 percent 2020 but it increased slightly from 0.62 percent in 2010-2015 period.

Ten Most populous barangays in Siquijor in 2020

Province of Siquijor has a total of 134 barangays and among them, Campalanas,Lazi was the most populous in 2020 with a population of 2,215 persons.  It is followed by barangays Simacolong, Lazi with 2,120 persons, Gabayan with 2,097 persons and Catulayan, San Juan with 2,022 persons.

Rank fifth as the most populous barangay is Catamboan (Pob.), Lazi with 1.80 thousand persons, followed by Pangi, Siquijor with 1.76 thousand persons, Tigbawan (Pob.), Lazi with 1.64 thousand persons, Timbaon, San Juan with 1.62 thousand persons and, Nagerong, Lazi with 1.56 thousand persons.

Barangay Poblacion, Siquijor is recorded as the 10th most populous among the barangays in Province of Siquijor with population of 1.47 thousand.

Among the top 10 barangays, six (6) belongs to Municipality of Lazi, two (2) belongs to Municipality of San Juan and two (2) belongs to the Municipality of Siquijor.

 

Ten Least Populous Barangays in Siquijor in 2020

During 2020 CPH, Balolong, Enrique Villanueva was the least populous barangay with 145 persons, followed by the Manan-ao, Enrique Villanueva with 180 persons, Cang-isad, Siquijor with 186 persons, and Bolot, Enrique Villanueva with 202 persons.

Rank fifth among the least populous barangay is Parian, Enrique Villanueva with 206 persons, followed by Olave, Enrique Villanueva with 208 persons, Cang-inte, Siquijor with 212 persons, then Tebjong, Siquijor with 212 persons and, Cangmatnog, Siquijor with 225 persons.

Barangay Cangmohao in Siquijor is the 10th least populous among the Barangays in Siquijor Province with the population of 234 persons.

Among the top 10 least populous barangays, five(5) belongs to the municipality of Enrique Villanueva and the other five (5) belongs to the municipality of Siquijor.

Technical Notes

The 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH)) was undertaken by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in September 2020 as mandated by Republic Act No. 10625, otherwise known as the Philippine Statistics Act of 2013. It was the 15th census of population and 7th census of Housing that was undertaken since the first census in 1903. The 2020 CPH was designed primarily to take an inventory of the total population and housing units all over the Philippines and collect information about the demographic, social, economic, and cultural characteristics and facilities of the housing units. The reference period for the 2020 CPH was 01 May 2020 (12:01 a.m.). The enumeration period was delayed and conducted in September 2020 due to the pandemic caused by the COVID-19.

Definition of Terms

Census of Population and Housing refers to the complete process of collecting, compiling, evaluating, analyzing, publishing, and disseminating data about the population and housing units in the country.

Population Growth Rate is an annual average rate of change of population size during a specified period.        

Total Population is composed of the household population plus the institutional population.
