Negros Oriental ranked second in the most number of registered births

The province of Negros Oriental ranked second in Region VII - Central Visayas in the total number of registered live births by place of occurrence in the year 2022. There were 20,597 registered live births in the province which translated to 17.3 percent of the total live births registered in the region. This translated to 56 live births per day on the average in the province. (Figure 1)
 

 

More males were born than females


In the year 2022, more males (10,824 or 52.6% share) were born than females (9,773 or 47.4% share) in the province of Negros Oriental, resulting in a sex ratio at birth of 110 males per 100 females. (Figure 2)

 

Most number of births are registered in September

In 2022, most registered births occurred in September at 1,958 or 9.5 percent of the total births by place of occurrence in Negros Oriental. It was followed by the months of October (9.3% share) and December (8.8% share). On the other hand, the month of February had the least number of births (7.2% share). (Figure 3 and Table 1)

On the average, there were 56 babies born daily or about two babies born per hour during the year 2022 in the province of Negros Oriental.

 

Highest occurrence of births recorded in Dumaguete City

 

Of the total live births in the province, 41.3 percent were born in Dumaguete City, 10.2 percent in Bayawan City, and 7.1 percent in Guihulngan City. Bais City with 5.8 percent and Santa Catalina with 4.8 percent were placed in the fourth and fifth rank, respectively. Registered live births from these five areas comprised 69.2 percent to the total registered live births in Negros Oriental in the year 2022. (Figure 4 and Table 2)
 

 

Eight in ten birth deliveries were attended by health professionals

 

Of the total number of births in Negros Oriental, 84.7 percent were attended by health professionals. On the other hand, 14.4 percent of births were delivered by a hilot/ traditional birth attendant and 0.9 percent for others. (Figure 5 and Table 3)
 

 

Eight in ten births delivered in health facilities

 


In 2022, eight out of 10 births were delivered in a health facility (83.8%), which was either a hospital, birthing clinic, lying in, outpatient care center, specialized care center, and the like. Only 16.1 percent of total births were delivered at home and 0.08 percent were delivered in other locations. (Figure 6 and Table 3)


Majority of babies were born to mothers aged 25-29 years old

Majority of registered live births in Negros Oriental were to mothers aged 25-29 years (5,553 or 27%). About 11.1% of the registered births were to mothers aged 15-19 years, while 0.2% or 38 births were to mothers aged under 15. (Figure 7)
