Bohol

The headline inflation in Bohol increased to 7.6 percent in July 2022, from 5.2 percent in June 2022. Inflation in July 2021 was lower at 1.5 percent. The average inflation for the first seven months of the year stood at 4.8 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)

In comparison to national and regional figures, Bohol’s inflation rate (IR) in July is higher by 1.2 percentage points than the national IR and by 0.7 than the regional IR.

The increase in the province’s inflation was mainly brought about by the higher annual increase in the index for Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages at 5.9 percent; Transportation at 13.9; Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels at 12.0 percent; and Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 10.5 percent. Also contributing to the uptrend in the overall inflation during the period were the high annual increments in the indices of the following commodity:

  1. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 7.5 percent;

  2. Clothing and Footwear, 2.7;

  3. Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance, 2.4;

  4. Health, 1.9;

  5. Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 1.7 percent.

The commodity groups Education Services and Financial Services either retained their previous month’s inflation rates or had zero percent annual growths.

For food index, it increased to 6.0 percent in July 2022, from 3.3 percent in the previous month. In July 2021, food index had -1.0 percent inflation rate.

Double-digit growth rates were observed in Oils and Fats at 31.2 percent and Sugar, Confectionery, and Desserts at 27.9 percent. The following food groups had higher annual increments during the month in comparison with the previous month:

  1. Flour, Bread and Other Bakery Products, Pasta Products, and Other Cereals, 9.4 percent;

  2. Meat and Other Parts of Slaughtered Land Animals, 5.0;

  3. Fish and Other Seafood, 6.8;

  4. Milk, Other Dairy Products, and Eggs, 5.6;

  5. Fruits and Nuts, 9.7;

  6. Vegetables, Tubers, Cooking Bananas, and Pulses, -0.5;

  7. Ready-Made Food and Other Food Products N.E.C, 1.5; and

  8. Non-alcoholic Beverages, 4.5 percent.

On the other hand, Cereals, Rice, Corn, and Transport had lower annual upticks during the month.
