Central Visayas ranked 5th with most registered deaths
Central Visayas recorded a total of 24,240 number of registered deaths and this comprised 8.5 percent of the total registered deaths of 284,185 in the Philippines for the period January- June 2020. The region ranked 5th with largest number of registered deaths in the country. (See Figure 1)
Lower Deaths Registered in 2020 than 2019 in Central Visayas
Central Visayas registered a preliminary number of 24,240 deaths from January to June 2020, this is 3.76 percent lower than the registered deaths in the 1st semester of 2019 with 25,186 registered deaths. The month of June registered the highest number of deaths with 4,740 or 19.6 percent while the lowest number of registered deaths was recorded in the month of April with 3,506 or 14.5 percent of the registered deaths in Central Visayas. (See Figure 2)
Cebu Province had the highest number of registered deaths
As the province with the highest population, Cebu province recorded the highest number of deaths on the first semester of 2020 with 9,306 number of registered deaths or 38.39 percent of the regions total. This was followed by the Province of Bohol with 4,242 number of registered deaths or 17.5 percent, Negros Oriental with 4,167 or 17.19 percent and Siquijor with 387 or 1.60 percent number of deaths registered respectively. (See Figure 3.)
Cebu City had the highest number of deaths registered among Highly Urbanized Cities
Among the three highly urbanized cities in Region 7, Cebu City had the highest number of registered deaths with 4,012 or 16.55 percent from the regions share. This was followed by Lapu-Lapu City with 1,126 or 4.64 percent number of registered deaths, it is noticeable that a difference of 2,886 number of deaths recorded from Cebu City. While Mandaue City had the lowest number of registered deaths among HUCs with 1000 or 4.12 percent. (See Figure 3.)
Top 10 Municipalities with highest number of Registered Deaths
Out of one hundred sixteen municipalities in Central Visayas. Here are the top ten municipalities which had the highest number of deaths recorded in the region. Top 1 municipality with highest number of deaths recorded was in the Municipality of Minglanilla with 368 number of registered deaths or 1.5 percent of the regions share. This was followed by five municipalities coming from the province of Cebu: Consolacion, Liloan, Daanbantayan, Bantayan and Barili with the greatest number of registered deaths. (See Table 1.)

Vital statistics » are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime.
