The three (3) major economic sectors, namely: Agriculture, Industry and Services comprise the 18 industry sections, which are grouped as follows:
Services sector dominated the total number of establishments
In 2018, Central Visayas accounted a total of 27,885 number of establishments. Among the major economic sectors, the Services sector dominated the total number of establishments with 24,894 which comprised 89.27 percent of the total. For the other major economic sectors, Industry with 2,749 establishments and Agriculture with 242 establishments, shared the remaining 9.85 percent and 0.86 percent, respectively. In terms of total employment, Services reported the highest total number of employees with 465, 571. (Figures 1 and 2)
Four in every ten establishments were engaged in Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles
Among industry sections, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles held the biggest share with 11,642 establishments or 41.75 percent of the total count in 2018 followed by Accommodation and food service activities with 3,963 establishments or 14.21 percent. Financial and Insurance activities ranked 3rd among industry sections with 2,508 establishments or 8.99 percent. On the other hand, Mining and Quarrying accounted the lowest total number of establishments with 31 establishments or 0.11 percent in Central Visayas.(Figure 3 and Table 2)
Manufacturing sector accounted the highest total number of workers on Sub-Contract Agreement or under Manpower agencies
A total of 61,587 workers were on Sub-contract agreement or under manpower agencies. Industry sector posted the highest total number of Sub-contract agreement or under manpower agencies with 39,770 followed by Services with 21,518 and Agriculture sector with 299 workers. Across industry section, Manufacturing sector reported with the highest total number of workers which comprised of 54.03 percent or 33, 274 total workers in 2018. (Figure 4)
The total revenue reachedPhp 1.3 trillion while Php 1.2 trillion for total expense for all Industry Sections in 2018
The total revenue generated by the formal sector establishments in 2018 totaled to about Php 1.3 trillion. Comparatively, the total expense in 2018 amounting to Php 1.2 trillion.(Table 2)
The Services sector had the biggest share in total revenue among the three major economic sectors with more than Php 878.0 billion or 64.94 percent. This is almost double the share of the Industry sector with Php 468.4 billion or 34.64 percent. The Agriculture sector with Php 5.69 billion or 0.42 percent.(Table 2)
Similar distribution of shares, in terms of total expense incurred, was observed for the three major economic sectors. Services sector had the highest share of Php 775.3 billion or 64.51 percent, followed by Industry sector with Php 421.2 billion or 35.05 percent and lastly, Agriculture sector with Php 5.2 billion or 0.44 percent shares of the total. (Table 2)
Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles lead the revenue generation, and also on top in terms of expense incurred
Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles led the other sections in terms of revenue generation with a share of Php 508.4 billion or 37.60 percent of the total. This section also had the highest expense incurred with Php 480.9 billion comprising 40.01 percent of the total expense incurred by all industry sections.(Figure 5 and Table 2)
Next to the top was the manufacturing industry section with Php 321.5 billion or 23.78 percent revenue generated, and Php 298.4 billion or 24.83 percent total expense incurred.
Total compensation paid to employees reached Php 154.9 billion
From the total expense incurred in 2018, 12.89 percent or more than Php 154.9 billion was spent for employee’s compensation.(Table 1)
Across industry sections, administrative and support service activities spent a big portion of their expense for compensation which was computed at Php 36.2 billion or 23.63 percent.(Table 1)
