Based from the preliminary results of the nationwide 2021 Updating of the List of Establishments (ULE), Central Visayas accounted a total number of 78, 419 establishments which were in operation in 2021. Among all regions, Central Visayas ranked fourth with the highest total number of establishments following National Capital Region, CALABARZON and Central Luzon. (Figure 1)

The region’s total number of establishments in operation increased by 10.6 percent compared to the results of 2018 ULE. (Figure 2)

Among provinces, Cebu posted the highest number of establishments in operation with 54,063 comprising 69.3 percent of the total number of establishments in 2021. Followed by Negros Oriental and Bohol with 11,526 and 11,408 total establishments, with 14.8 and 14.2 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, Siquijor reported with the lowest total number of establishments accounting 1,422 or 1.8 percent. (Figure 3)

In Central Visayas, the top three industries that accounted the largest total number of establishments in operation were Sector G- Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motorcycles and Motors with 36,177 establishments followed by Sector I- Accommodation and Food Service Activities and Sector C- Manufacturing with 12, 761 and 8,996 establishments, respectively. By MSME, Central Visayas reported with the highest total establishments in operation under Micro Category with 69, 652 establishments or 88.8 percent in 2021 ULE. Meanwhile, a total of 415 establishments or 0.5 percent were under Large Category. (Figure 5)

The total reported number of newly listed establishments in the region for 2021 ULE is 35,390 . Among provinces, Cebu accounted the highest share with 24,985 establishments followed by Negros Oriental with 5,491 establishments. (Figure 6)

Central Visayas accounted a total employment of establishments in operation of 773,933 in all industry sections. Among industry sections, Sector G- Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motorcycles and Motors reported the highest total employment with 178,694 followed by Sector C- Manufacturing with 169, 036 for 2021 ULE (refer to the Industry Codes above). The 2021 ULE was conducted generally to update the status and characteristics of establishments in the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) List of Establishments (LE) and to provide information on the distribution of establishments and employment across areas and industries. The LE serves as the source of sampling frame for all establishment-based surveys and censuses conducted by PSA.
