By region, Central Luzon remained the top producer of chicken during the quarter with 169.5 thousand metric tons, liveweight. This was followed by CALABARZON with 71.9 thousand metric tons, liveweight, and Northern Mindanao with 51.8 thousand metric tons, liveweight. These three regions shared 60.7 percent to the country’s total chicken production. The other top producing regions were Central Visayas, 32.4 thousand metric tons, Western Visayas, 30.4 thousand metric tons, and SOCCSKSARGEN, 21.9 thousand metric tons. (Figure 3 and Table 1)
In terms of total production, Central Luzon accounted the highest percent share of 35.1 percent while the region’s percent share was reported at 6.7 percent to the country’s total chicken production. (Table 1)
As of 01 January 2022, Central Visayas’ total chicken inventory was estimated at 19.22 million birds which was lower by -3.1 percent from the 19.83 million birds in the same period of 2021. (Figure 4 and Table 2)
Meanwhile, by chicken type, Native/Improved Chicken of the region posted highest inventory of 8.58 million birds which accounted 44.6 percent followed by Broiler at 6.44 million birds, 33.5 percent and Layer Chicken at 4.21 million birds, 21.9 percent.

This Swine Situation Report presents the swine industry in terms of volume of production and inventory by farm type. The report is prepared to serve as a ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly; that is, every February, May, August, and November.
Concepts and Definitions
Volume of production refers to the volume of locally-raised hog disposed for slaughter including those which were shipped out to other regions/provinces for slaughter. This is expressed in metric tons, liveweight.
Inventory refers to the actual number of swine present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
