Registered Death by Place of Occurrence

At a national level, a total of 679,766 registered deaths were recorded in 2022. Central Visayas reported 56,382 deaths or 8.3 percent, constituting a portion of the total registered deaths in the Philippines. Among all regions, Region VII ranked fifth in terms of the highest number of registered deaths in the country. 


Registered Death by Place of Occurrence in Central Visayas

Among provinces and HUCs in Central Visayas, Cebu Province recorded the highest number of registered deaths with 21,964 or 39.0 percent. This was followed by Negros Oriental with 10,826 or 19.2 percent, and Bohol with 10,783 or 19.1 percent. Conversely, Siquijor had the lowest number of deaths, with only 900 or 1.6 percent.

In Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), Cebu City reported the highest number of deaths, totaling 7,226 or 12.8 percent, followed by Lapu-Lapu City with 2,698 or 4.8 percent, and Mandaue City with 1,985 or 3.5 percent. Collectively, HUCs in Cebu accounted for 11,909 registered deaths.

Registered Deaths by Month in Central Visayas: 2022

In terms of the number of deaths by month of occurrence in Central Visayas, month of January recorded the highest number of deaths with 5,791 or 10.3 percent, while April had the least number of registered deaths with 4,391 or 7.8 percent.

Registered Deaths by Site of Occurrence, Central Visayas: 2022

In Central Visayas, 36,100 or 63.7 percent of the total deaths occurred at home while, 20,345 or 35.9 percent died in any health facilities and 227 or 0.4 percent in others.

Registered Deaths by Attendant, Central Visayas: 2022

In 2022, out of 56,382 total registered deaths in Central Visayas, 33,653 or 59.7 percent were unattended, 22,254 or 39.4 percent were attended, and 475 or 0.8 percent were not stated. Furthermore, registered deaths were attended by either hospital authority with 18,614 attendants or 33.0 percent, public health officer with 2,279 or 4.0 percent, private physician with 984 or 1.7 percent and others with 377 or 0.7 percent.

Registered Infant Deaths by Province and HUCs, Central Visayas: 2022

Central Visayas recorded a total of 1,565 registered infant deaths for the year 2022. Cebu with 511 or 32.7 percent had the highest registered infant deaths, followed by Negros Oriental with 253 or 16.2 percent and Bohol with 243 or 15.5 percent. Meanwhile, Siquijor had the least number of registered deaths with 11 or 0.7 percent.

On the other hand, for Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), Cebu City contributed 372 or 23.8 percent, Lapu-Lapu City with 88 or 5.6 percent and Mandaue City with 87 or 5.6 percent.

Registered Infant Deaths by Month of Occurrence, Central Visayas: 2022

In 2022, Central Visayas recorded the highest number of registered infant deaths in July with 190 or 12.1 percent, while February had the least number of registered deaths, with 90 or 5.8 percent.

Registered Maternal Deaths by Province and HUCs, Central Visayas: 2022

Central Visayas recorded a total of 210 registered maternal deaths for the year 2022. Cebu recorded the highest maternal deaths with 42 or 20.0 percent, followed by Negros Oriental with 31 or 14.8 percent and Bohol with 18 or 8.6 percent. Meanwhile, Siquijor had the least number of registered deaths with 1 or 0.5 percent.

On the other hand, for Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), Cebu City contributed 97 or 46.2 percent, Lapu-Lapu City with 11 or 5.2 percent and Mandaue with 10 or 4.8 percent.

Registered Maternal Deaths by Month of Occurrence, Central Visayas: 2022

Central Visayas recorded the highest number of registered maternal deaths in July, with 31 or 14.9 percent, while March had the least number of registered deaths, with 10 or 4.8 percent.

Registered Fetal Deaths by Province and HUCs, Central Visayas: 2022

In 2022, a total of 832 fetal deaths were reported. Cebu had the highest number with 378 or 45.4 percent, followed by Bohol with 120 or 14.4 percent, Negros Oriental with 80 or 9.6 percent, and Siquijor with the fewest at 7 or 0.8 percent.

In Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), Cebu City reported the highest number of fetal deaths, totaling 128 or 15.4 percent, followed by Lapu-Lapu City with 69 or 8.3 percent, and Mandaue City with 50 or 6.0 percent.

Registered Fetal Deaths by Month of Occurrence, Central Visayas: 2022

Central Visayas recorded the highest number of registered fetal deaths in August, with 88 or 10.6 percent, while February had the least number of registered deaths, with 52 or 6.3 percent.

Technical Notes:

Vital statistics » are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. 

Death » refers to the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live birth has taken place.

Month of Occurrence » refers to the month where the vital event took.

Attendant » refers to a private physician, public health officer, hospital authority, or any other allied health care provider who provided medical attendance to the deceased.

Infant Death » is a death that occurred before reaching age 1.

Maternal Death » is the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination
of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of pregnancy, from any cause related
to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management but not from accidental or incidental
causes.

Fetal Death » refers to the death of a fetus irrespective of the duration of pregnancy prior to complete expulsion or extraction of a product of conception from the mother's womb.
