IN Q1 2021

Majority of the fruit vegetables monitored in the FPS market basket of the province of Negros Oriental recorded a positive trend of its average farm gate prices compared to the preceding quarter. Price improvements range from as low as 0.65 percent to as high as 102.71 percent.

Squash fruit recorded the highest average farm gate price boost of 102.71 percent due to less inflow of same commodity from Mindanao. This quarters’ average price rose Php14.54 per kilogram over the previous quarters’ price level. Eggplant long purple gained the second highest price increase of 47.43 percent pushing its price from Php36.92 per kilo gram last quarter to Php54.43 per kilo gram due to less production.

Ampalaya and Chayote fruits became dearer by Php13.99 and Php6.17 per kilo gram respectively during the current quarter as compared to the October – December 2020 average quarterly farm gate price. Caused mainly by the strong demand of these commodities from other nearby provinces.

Cucumber fruit had the least price improvement of merely 0.19 centavos over the past quarters average farm gate price due to lesser demand from outside the province.

Tomato fruit posted a negative trend by reducing its quarterly average farm gate price to Php39.99 from Php58.99 in the previous quarter due to less inflow of same products from Mindanao. Equivalent percentage reduction of price is 32.21 percent.

These figures were the result of the Farm Prices Survey (FPS) is a monthly national survey that gathers data on farm gate or producers’ prices received for their produce at the first point of sale less transport or delivery expenses. Respondents of this survey are farmers, raisers and traders of selected commodities monitored in the province.
