POPULATION OF YOUTH and SENIOR CITIZEN

Total Population

Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing, the total population of Siquijor Province as of 01 May 2020 is 103,395. This is 7,411 persons more than its total population of 95,984 persons in 2015. 

Population of Youth 10 to 24 yrs. old, 2015

       The result of 2015 Census of Population and Housing showed a total of 16,194 youth ages 10 to 24 yrs. old. Among the six (6) municipalities, the provincial capital, Siquijor recorded the highest number of youths with 4,684 persons while the municipality with the least number of youths with 1,022 persons is Enrique Villanueva.

       Among the 16,194 youth ages 10 to 24 yrs. old, men posted a higher number with 8,313 persons which represents 51 percent and women posted 7,881 persons which represents 49 percent. 

Population of Senior Citizen ages 60 yrs. old and above

            From the result of the 2015 Census of Population and Housing, the province of Siquijor posted a total population of senior citizens of 12,838 persons. The provincial capital, Siquijor posted the highest number at 3,336 persons constituting 26 percent of the total senior citizen in the province. Meanwhile, women posted higher in number at 7,158 persons representing 55.8 percent than men posting at 5,680 persons representing 44.2 percent. 

As shown in figure 1, in all age group of senior citizens in 2015, women dominate in number. Data shows that women lived longer than men.

Enrollment in Govt. Elementary and High school, SY 2017-2018

            In SY 2017-2018, 52.1 percent of enrollees for govt. elementary schools were males. This was 514 enrollees higher than female. The municipality of Siquijor recorded the highest number of enrollees at 3,076 while the municipality of Enrique Villanueva recorded the lowest number of enrollees at 717.           

            In the same SY, 50.3 percent of enrollees posted for govt. high schools were males. This was 53 enrollees higher than female. The municipality of Lazi recorded the highest number of enrollees at 2,256 while the municipality of Larena recorded the lowest number of enrollees at 559.

Enrollment in Govt. Elementary and High school, SY 2018-2019

            The number of male enrollees in govt. elementary schools for SY 2018-2019 was at 6,338, a 3.6 percent higher than female which comprises of 5,901 enrollees. The municipality of Siquijor posted the highest number of enrollees at 3,123 representing 25.5 percent while the municipality of Enrique Villanueva posted the lowest number of enrollees at 730 representing 5.9 percent of the total enrollees for the whole province.           

            Enrollment in govt. high schools in SY 2018-2019 posted a total enrollee at 7,758 which comprises of 3,951 males and 3,807 females. Male dominate in number representing 50.9 percent while women represent 49.1 percent. The municipality that posted the highest and lowest number of enrollees are Lazi at 1,192 and Larena at 298, respectively.

Enrollment in Govt. Elementary and High school, SY 2019-2020

            For the SY 2019-2020 in govt. elementary schools, male recorded the highest number of enrollees representing 51.1 percent or 6,173 enrollees. Meanwhile, female enrollees represent 48.9 percent or 5,890 enrollees. Highest and lowest number of enrollees were recorded at the municipality of Siquijor at 3,140 and Enrique Villanueva at 714, respectively.           

            In the same SY, enrollment in govt. high schools recorded a total number of enrollees of 8,168, which comprises of male 4,253 or 52.1 percent and female at 3,915 or 47.9 percent. The municipality of Lazi and Maria recorded the highest and lowest enrollee at 2,468 and 604, respectively. 

As shown in Figure 2, male dominate in number of enrollees for the three consecutive school years (SY) 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 both for govt. elementary and high schools.
