The Philippine Statistics Authority is enjoining all agencies of the government, local government units, academic institutions, state universities and colleges, and the private sector at the national and subnational levels to actively participate in and support the 31st National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration this October 2020.
Pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by President Corazon C. Aquino on September 29, 1990 Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month. The NSM is annually observe nationwide. The NSM aims to: (a) promote, enhance and instill awareness and appreciation on the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of the society; and (b) elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.
This October NSM celebration will carry the theme “Bridging Digital Gaps: Making Information Available To All.” The theme anchors on the availability of information for all in digital and computer technologies adopting faster and better delivery of timely and quality statistics for sound policies and programs that are produced through effective innovations. The Filipino people will be assured of the achievement of the country’s long-term vision of a comfortable life for all. During the whole-month NSM Celebration, the World’s Statistics Day will also be observed on October 20, 2020 which will also be participated in by statistical and other line agencies. For Central Visayas, the virtual opening ceremony is scheduled on 5 October 2020 where the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) is this year’s NSM host.
With this, the PSA is encouraging the local government units, national government agencies and the general public to participate in the celebration of the 31st NSM nationwide. Several lined-up activities to the month-long celebration includes: press/media forum, radio program guest and interview, conduct of statistical/trivia quiz, essay writing and slogan & poster making contest, lecture and info dissemination, film showing and statistical exhibits among others.
