Iloilo City, Iloilo – Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Siquijor Provincial Statistics Office delegate in the person of Senior Statistical Specialist, Jill Bernadette C. Abing together with representatives from the other provinces of Region VII and personnel from the regional office attended in the 2024 Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI) Annual Conference at Diversion 21 Hotel, Iloilo City, Iloilo held last 10-12 September 2024.
The Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI) is a private non-stock and non-profit foundation organized on December 22, 1951 and registered and incorporated on September 24, 1952 with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The PSAI was also registered with the Department of Science and Technology on August 31, 1993 as a foundation for scientific advancement.
The PSAI envisions to be a nationally and globally recognized society of statisticians and allied professionals committed to advancing the statistics profession and to promoting sound statistical science for the welfare of all Filipinos and the entire humanity. As envisioned by its founders and adhered to by government of members thereafter, the PSAI is committed to the following objectives: to foster statistics and its application in the broadest manner; to promote unity and effectiveness of effort among all concerned with statistical problems and to increase the contribution of statistics to human welfare.
This year’s annual conference theme is ”Statistics in the Age of Intelligence and Innovations: Balancing Progress and Responsibility”. The conference's overarching theme will serve as a beacon guiding the discourse on statistics and its importance in and intersection with technological advancement, societal progress, and ethical responsibility. The Annual Conference shall aim to accentuate the role and responsibilities of statisticians and data practitioners in harnessing the opportunities from use of structured data, unstructured data, and big data, notwithstanding the challenges posed by the rapid evolution of technology.
President of PSAI, in the person of Josefina Almeda, at the same time Executive Director of the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute, welcomed the attendees during the opening of the conference. As reported by the annual conference committee chair, Ms. Carmelita N. Ericta, attendance to this year’s conference totaled two hundred sixty-six (266) of which, one hundred eight (108) attendees came from the Philippine Statistics Authority, some from the academe, national government agencies, local government units and private companies.
