The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has issued Office Memorandum No. 2024-197, which prohibits the printing of the Digital National ID on Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) cards.

Consistent with paragraph 3 of Section 19 (b) of Republic Act No. 11055 in relation to item 2 of Office Memorandum (OM) No. 2022-1828 dated 15 July 2022 the production or issuance of National lDs without the express authority from the Philippine Statistics Authority is considered a punishable offense. Consequently, the printing of the Digital

National lDs in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cards is strictly prohibited. The proscription aims to avoid confusion on the part of Relying Parties with respect to the National lD cards being printed at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas facility and delivered by the National lD Delivery Service Provider.

"While you don’t have the physical card, you have the digital ID, you can download and use it, di na kailangan ang physical card para makapag transaksyon kasi the digital card is sufficient," said Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa of the PSA. The undersecretary emphasizes that the digital card is sufficient to be used in transactions requiring valid identification.
