The PSA 7 was invited by the University of the Philippines Cebu Math Major’s Circle (UPCMMC) as Guest Speaker during their 29th National Statistics Month (NSM) opening ceremony on 1 October 2018.
Engr. Felixberto M. Sato, Jr. Senior Statistical Specialist of PSA 7 graced the annual celebration at UP Cebu campus and talked about the importance of statistics in countryside development. In line with this, the 29th NSM has for its theme – “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development”. He emphasized that the theme reflects the relevance of statistics in achieving a sustainable and progressive tourism growth for our country. Furthermore, the theme also focuses on the need for statistics to identify potential tourism havens and also areas which require intervention.
Data presentations were also done on the latest statistical data generated by PSA in relation to tourism. The result of 2016 Household Survey on Domestic Visitors (HSDV) and the Philippine Tourism Satellite Account (PTSA) of 2017 compiled by the PSA were presented for data appreciation among math major’s students.
