The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recently launched the Digital National ID which is a new version of the National ID. This version can be accessed online and can be stored in electronic devices, such as android phones, tablets, laptops, etc. Same with the other versions of the National ID, the Digital National ID is accepted as a sufficient proof of identity and age of the registered person.

Since this version of the National ID is digital in nature, the production and printing of the Digital National ID in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cards is strictly prohibited by the PSA. This prohibition is consistent with paragraph 3 of section 19 (b) of Republic Act No. 11055 that states:

The penalty of three (3) years to six (6) years imprisonment and a fine of One million pesos (₱1,000,000.00) to Three million pesos (₱3,000,000.00) shall be imposed upon any offender found guilty of any of the following acts or omissions:

2. The unauthorized printing, preparation, ox* issuance of a PhilID by any person;

Correspondingly, Digital National IDs printed in PVC cards should not be accepted as proof of identity and age in any public and private transactions.
The PSA released three (3) versions of the National ID, the National ID Card that is printed in a plastic card delivered by PhlPost, the National ID on paper which is printed and issued in PhilSys Registration Centers upon request of the registrant, and the Digital National ID an electronic ID that can be accessed thru the internet and stored in electronic devices. These IDs has different characteristics but has the same functionality and validity.
