Negros Oriental January 2021 Farm Prices

 

Higher farm gate prices for Palay fresh and Corn grain white versus December 2020

    Average farm gate price of Palay fresh and Corn grain white, this January 2021 compared with same month last year have recorded expanding trend in the Farm Price Survey (FPS) conducted.

    Palay fresh other variety average monthly farm gate price rise by Php0.86 per kilo compared to the same month in 2020. More demand from Negros Occidental grains traders against lesser production triggered the trend. Corn grain white added Php0.16 per kilo gram to its previous years’ average farm gate price of Php12.35 per kilo gram.

    January 2021 Farm prices Survey result generated a regressing price movement for Robusta dry beans, Abaca dried fiber, Sugarcane for raw sugar and Coconut mature nuts due to decreasing demand from processors. Coconut mature nuts posted the biggest average farm gate price drop of 12.56%  below its price level in January 2020 of Php6.37 per kilo gram. Robusta dried beans lost Php6.86 per kilogram from the previous years’ price of Php87.83 per kilo gram. Abaca dried fiber drained Php4.30 per kilo from last years’ price of Php60.63 per kilo gram.

    Coconut young and Copra fresh increased its average farm gate price Php3.05 per kilo and Php6.22 per kilogram, respectively. Due to higher demand and increasing traders’ price offering this year.

Average farm gate prices of most of selected fruit vegetables monitored this January 2021 improved compared with the average farm gate price recorded in the same month of 2020. Robust demand for these commodities leads to the upgraded average farm gate price. Meager supply against flourishing demand also plays a role in the encouraging trend.

     Squash fruit secured the biggest average price profit of Php30.62 per kilo equivalent to a 259.71 percent improvement. Ampalaya fruit got the least increase of 23.46 percent to set on Php47.10 per kilogram this year. Tomato gained Php28.19 per kilogram over its last years’ price of Php26.69 per kilo farm gate price.

 

         

 

     Eggplant long purple and Chayote fruit also showcased a vigorous growth compared to the same month in 2020. Eggplant gained Php26.35 per kilogram average farm gate price over last December 2020 price of Php39.30 per kilo. Chayote fruit price soar 83.19 percent to peg this year's farm gate price of Php25.28 per kilogram. Cucumber slumped Php10.96 per kilogram from last years’ price of Php41.73 per kilogram.

    Limited production of these commodities during the reference month due to poor crop performance affected by erratic weather conditions influenced the rising price trend.

 

Majority of selected temperate leaf vegetables farm gate price soar

   Low production during the period against sturdy demand from outside province drove the average farm gate price of majority of Cruciferous vegetables to ascending trend. Cabbage zoomed at 235.95 percent high average farm gate price. Loading Php48.37 per kilo over its Php20.50 per kilogram price level in January 2020. Lettuce followed at 94.49 percent advancement, setting from Php25.05 per kilogram last year to Php48.72 per kilogram this year

    Pechay Baguio and pechay native put up a price expansion of 84.28 per cent and 76.20 percent over its level in January 2020. Cauliflower improved 44.66 per cent to settle on Php106.27 per kilo from last years’ average farm gate price of Php73.46 per kilo. Broccoli forged a 38.76 per cent adding Php27.63 per kilogram to same month last year price of Php71.29 per kilo average farm gate price.

More than 55% of fruits farm gate price regress for the month January 2021.

     Mango carabao variety prices reported this January 2021 progressed 20.21 percent compared to the same month in 2020. More demand for export to other provinces particularly in Metro Manila caused the incline. Associating this months’ average farm gate price with that recorded in January 2020, Banana Cavendish and Saba prices deteriorated 9.79 per cent and 5.80 percent respectively due to more production and weak demand. Lacatan variety upgraded its farm gate prices 4.03 percent over its previous years’ price of Php32.48 per kilo lesser inflow from Mindanao triggered the increase.

    Latundan price increased merely gained 0.12 centavos over its January 2020 price of Php13.37 due to sustained demand from outside province. While Bungulan also registered an 11.76 per cent price improvement adding Php1.23 per kilo in its average farm gate price. Higher demand from outside province and less inflow from outside province triggered the higher pricing this month.

Major root crops farm gate price strengthened.

    More than 67 per cent of selected root crops monitored in the provincial market basket of the Farm Prices Survey put up an amplifying trend in its average farm gate price for the month of January 2021 as compared with the same month in 2020, major root crops like Camote and Ginger Hawaiian projected a reducing price trend.

     Higher demand brought the snowballing rise of farm gate prices of Cassava tubers for food, Radish, Gabi Tagalog, and Gabi Cebu. Cassava put up a minute 0.55 centavos price rise over same period last year. Radish and Gabi Cebu farm gate price rose Php3.74 and Php1.52 per kilo respectively over the average price in 2020 same period. Gabi Tagalog appreciated 0.51 centavos only.  Ginger showed down the heaviest price drop of Php10.01 per kilo to lay to its current average farm gate price of Php46.97 per kilo from that of last years’ Php56.98 per kilo, price loss of 17.57 per cent.

    Sufficient production of Camote and Ginger Hawaiian against declining demand pushed down its average farm gate price.

All other selected commodities farm gate price went low.

     Coconut young buko and Copra fresh recorded a higher average farm gate price this period compared to same period in 2020. Higher demand and higher traders buying price bolstered the individual prices by 46.00 percent and 71.41 percent, respectively.

    Robusta coffee dry beans, abaca raw fiber, Sugarcane for raw sugar and Coconut mature plummeted to a reduced level compared to same period last year. Increasing production of these commodities and weaker demand caused each average farm gate prices to dive lower than the previous level. Robusta lowered by Php6.86 per kilogram, Abaca fiber sank Php4.30 per kilogram, Coconut mature was cheaper by 0.80 centavos while Sugarcane for raw sugar lessened 0.04 centavos from the Php30.00 per kilogram trading price last January 2020.

Higher average farm gate price for livestock and poultry for slaughter

 

 

     Elevated trend of average farm gate price of all livestock and poultry for slaughter monitored during the month was recorded. Compared to the same month in 2020, Cattle, Carabao, Hog, Goat and Chicken native for slaughter registered higher price ceilings to wit: Chicken native became 0.44 centavos dearer, Goat Php19.72 higher, Cattle Php13.01 costlier, Carabao Php4.29 pricier while Hog came Php37.07 more expensive this January 2021 than in the same month in 2020. Stronger demand from outside the province especially from Metro Manila, Cebu and Leyte was the reason behind the rising trend.
