Negros Oriental Beans and Legumes Farm Gate Price Trend

in Q1 2021

For the 1st Quarter of 2021, 60 percent of the beans and legumes commodity monitored exhibited a declining trend of its average farm gate price. Comparing it with the previous quarter (Q4 2020) three (3) of the five (5) commodities monitored in the provincial market basket for farm prices lowered its price level ranging from as low as 2.10 percent drop to as high as 14.64 percent downtrend in prices.

Mongo green shiny recorded a 6.28 percent decrease in average farm gate price compared to the average farm gate price recorded in the October to December 2020 of Php72.03 per kilogram. Increasing production of the commodity in the locality triggered the decline. Peanut with shell fresh and dry reported a higher production level in the quarter which resulted to a decreasing price trend. A percentage decline of 2.10 percent and 14.64 percent respectively was recorded over the period as compared to the preceding quarter.

Habitchuelas average farm gate price for the first quarter of 2021 posted an 18.62 percent ascent to Php51.00 per kilogram compared to its average price in October to December 2020 which is Php42.99 per kilo only. Lesser production of the commodity during the quarter compared to the previous quarter triggered a stronger demand causing the price uptrend.

Stringbeans (Sitao)long, average farm gate price for the first quarter this year appreciated 21.77 percent putting on Php7.86 per kilo gram over the past quarters’ Php36.12 average farm gate price. This increment of price for this commodity resulted from its high market demand for the period. This commodity is a regular export to other nearby provinces within the region and in another regions.

These figures were the result of the Farm Prices Survey (FPS) is a monthly national survey that gathers data on farm gate or producers’ prices received for their produce at the first point of sale less transport or delivery expenses. Respondents of this survey are farmers, raisers and traders of selected commodities monitored in the province.
