A motorcade signaled the start of activities for this year’s Civil Registration Month. PSA Bohol employees together with colleagues from the office of the City Civil Registrar headed by Ms. Virgilia Incog paraded along the streets of the city.

With the theme “Inclusive and responsive CRVS: Working smarter through innovation", activities conducted during the month-long celebration were: display of streamers by government offices, mobile registration, quiz on civil registration, symposia and mass weddings.

This yearly occasion is observed in order to enhance public awareness with regards to the importance of Civil Registration in our lives. Civil Registration is the basis for an individual’s legal identity. Specifically, it is aimed to remind us of our duty to register all acts and vital events concerning the civil status of a person such as; birth, marriage and death. Statistics derived from data on civil registration is deemed important for government planners in formulating plans with regards to health, housing, education services among others.

Available data from January to September, 2018 showed that the city of Tagbilaran registered 1,084 births, 475 deaths and 623 marriages. Among the municipalities of our province Ubay topped in the number of births with a total of 1,121. Said municipality had 37 births more than the city of Tagbilaran. Talibon and Carmen followed with 857 and 619 births respectively. In the number of marriages during the same period Talibon posted 284 registered marriages. Carmen came next with 246 and is followed closely by the municipality of Dauis with 244 marriages.

An essay writing and poster making contest that will be participated by high school students of different schools in the city, is scheduled on the 28th of February. This activity will mark the end of this year’s celebration of the Civil Registration Month.
